Construction materials group Saint-Gobain has signed a renewable electricity purchase agreement with TotalEnergies for 60 GWh of electricity per year, to supply the company's industrial sites in the United Kingdom.
The five-year agreement will take effect in April 2027 and is expected to cover more than 20% of Saint-Gobain's annual electricity consumption in the country.
Deal Overview
The contract marks an important milestone for the group, as it is Saint-Gobain's first agreement of its kind in the UK. The long-term deal is directly backed by guarantees of origin from local renewable energy assets.
Part of a Wider Decarbonisation Strategy
The agreement forms part of Saint-Gobain's wider decarbonisation strategy. David Molho, senior vice president and CEO of Saint-Gobain's Northern Europe Region, said, "Saint-Gobain is committed to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. Delivering on this ambition requires the decarbonisation of our production processes around the world.
"Thanks to this agreement, Saint-Gobain in the UK is taking a major step forward toward this objective with a reliable and continuous supply of renewable electricity."

Track Record in Certified Renewable Power
Saint-Gobain has purchased certified renewable electricity in the UK since 2016, covering 100% of its operational usage in the country. The new purchase agreement with TotalEnergies builds on that established procurement practice.
At the group level, decarbonised electricity represented 70% of Saint-Gobain's global electricity consumption in 2025, compared with 39% in 2021. The group has signed 25 major decarbonised electricity supply agreements across 15 countries.
Strengthening Ties between the Two Energy Groups
The UK deal adds to the commercial relationship between the two companies, which previously signed a power purchase agreement in France in October 2024. TotalEnergies has been active in the UK renewables market, with the Saint-Gobain contract forming part of its portfolio of corporate supply arrangements.
Neither company has disclosed details of the specific renewable assets that will underpin the guarantees of origin beyond confirming that they will come from local renewable energy assets.
