RWE has inaugurated the Mondonuovo wind farm in Italy, a 53.1 MW facility located in the Apulia region near Brindisi. The wind farm is capable of powering 55,000 Italian households and represents RWE's largest onshore wind farm in Italy.

Project Specifications and Construction

The Mondonuovo wind farm consists of nine turbines, each with a capacity of 5.9 MW, totaling 53.1 MW of generating capacity. The facility is designed to supply green electricity to approximately 55,000 Italian households, contributing to the country's energy transition efforts.

The project required one year of construction work, during which 150 RWE employees and experts from external service providers were involved in the development and completion of the facility.

RWE's Expanded Italian Operations

The completion of Mondonuovo strengthens RWE's presence in Italy, where the company now operates 17 wind farms and one solar plant. The combined capacity of RWE's renewable energy portfolio in Italy totals 589 MW across all facilities.

With the addition of the Mondonuovo wind farm, RWE's renewable energy capacity in Italy now provides power to over 500,000 households. This project marks a key milestone in the development of renewable energy infrastructure in the country.

Strategic Significance and Company Leadership

The inauguration of Mondonuovo is part of RWE's strategy to expand its renewable energy portfolio in Italy. The company continues to invest in wind and solar projects to support the energy transition and meet the growing demand for green power in the region.

Katja Wünschel, CEO of RWE Renewables Europe & Australia, described the commissioning of Mondonuovo as an important moment in supporting Italy's transition to clean, stable, and cost-effective energy. She expressed gratitude to the RWE team, the local community, and all the companies and partners involved in the project's completion.

RWE highlights its role in helping Italy achieve its energy goals while enhancing the stability and sustainability of the country's energy supply. The company's continued investment in renewable energy projects demonstrates its commitment to supporting decarbonization efforts in the Italian energy sector.
