RWE Begins Construction of 92 MW Wind Capacity Across Two Italian Regions
RWE has begun construction of two major wind farms in Italy with a combined capacity of 92 megawatts. The projects include the 47 MW Serra Palino wind farm in the Apulia region and the 45 MW Venusia wind farm in the Basilicata region, with both facilities scheduled for commissioning at the end of 2026.
Project Specifications and Locations
The Serra Palino wind farm is located in the province of Foggia in the Apulia region and will consist of eight 5.9 MW turbines. The Venusia wind farm, situated in the province of Potenza in the Basilicata region, will feature eight 5.6 MW turbines. Both projects were successful in the latest Italian renewables auction.
Once operational, the two wind farms will generate enough green electricity to supply more than 83,000 households. The construction announcement was made on October 23, 2025, from the company's offices in Essen and Rome.
Company Leadership Statement
Katja Wünschel, CEO of RWE Renewables Europe & Australia, commented on the development: “Our journey to support Italy's energy transition continues. Following the commissioning of the Mondonuovo wind farm in July, we have started construction of two new onshore wind farms in Italy. Once commissioned, these projects will supply green electricity to more than 83,000 Italian households. Onshore wind power is a cornerstone of Italy's energy transition, and for good reason: it is clean, mature, and affordable.”

RWE's Italian Market Presence
RWE operates as a key player in the Italian renewables market, implementing an integrated project approach that incorporates the development, construction, and operation, as well as marketing of wind farms and solar plants. The company currently operates 17 onshore wind farms in Italy, with a combined installed capacity of 598 MW. This existing capacity is sufficient to supply more than 500,000 Italian households with green electricity annually.
Beyond wind power, RWE is expanding its renewable energy portfolio in Italy. The company is currently building its first commercial-scale Agri-PV plants, including the Morcone facility with 9.8 MWac capacity and the Acquafredda plant with 9.3 MWac capacity, both located in the Campania region.
Recent Project Completion
The construction announcement follows the recent commissioning of RWE's Mondonuovo wind farm in July 2025, demonstrating the company's ongoing commitment to expanding renewable energy capacity in Italy. The RWE Media Center has made available pictures of the Serra Palino construction site and other RWE wind farms in Italy for media use.
