Qualitas Energy Breaks Ground on Ingstetten Wind Farm Repowering Project in Germany

Qualitas Energy (renewable energy company) has commenced construction on the Ingstetten wind farm repowering project in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, marking a significant step in the country's ongoing effort to modernise its wind energy infrastructure.

 

The project will replace aging turbines with six next-generation machines, more than tripling the site's generating capacity and extending its operational life well into the future.

Old Turbines Out, Modern Machines In

The repowering project centres on the complete dismantling of five existing NEG Micon NM 48 wind turbines at the Ingstetten site, located in the municipality of Ingstetten approximately 35 kilometres southwest of Ulm.

 

The removal will extend to the turbines' foundations, as well as associated crane pads and access roads. In their place, six Enercon E-175 wind turbines will be installed, each carrying an individual installed capacity of 7 MW.

 

The six-turbine configuration brings the wind farm's total installed capacity to 42 MW, a substantial uplift from the outgoing equipment. Commissioning of all six turbines is expected to be completed by the end of 2027.

Once operational, the wind farm is projected to generate sufficient renewable electricity to supply approximately 28,000 households annually.

 

Groundbreaking Draws Regional Officials and Community

A groundbreaking ceremony held on 29 July brought together a broad cross-section of stakeholders from politics, public administration, the energy industry and the local community.

 

Attendees included Michael Joukov, a Member of the State Parliament of Baden-Württemberg, Josef Schmid representing the Mayor of Schelklingen, and Dieter Schmucker, Mayor of Ingstetten. Representatives from the Alb-Donau District Office were also present, alongside the Qualitas Energy project team and construction company Stricker.

The attendance of regional political figures and local administrators at the ceremony was described by Qualitas Energy as reflecting broad regional support for the project and its contribution to the local energy transition.

Johannes Overbeck, CEO of Qualitas Energy in Germany, said the start of construction represents another important milestone for the company's wind energy platform in the country.

 

"It also reflects our commitment to advancing high-quality renewable energy projects and delivering tangible progress towards a more sustainable and secure energy system," Overbeck said.

Christopher Koller, Qualitas Energy's Project Manager for the Ingstetten wind farm, highlighted the efficiency gains that the technology upgrade is expected to deliver.

 

"By replacing older turbines with modern and higher-capacity technology, this repowering project will significantly improve the site's efficiency, make better use of the available wind resources, strengthen regional energy supply and support Germany's energy transition," Koller said.

Part of a Growing German Wind Portfolio

The Ingstetten project sits within a larger German wind energy operation that Qualitas Energy has been building over recent years. The company states it holds a portfolio of more than 100 wind energy projects in Germany, with a 3 GW late-stage development pipeline and over 1 GW already under construction or in operation in the country. The firm says it is positioned to accelerate growth through strategic acquisitions and targeted investments in renewable energy assets.

Assets are held across Spain, Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, Poland, Chile and the United States.

Qualitas Energy employs more than 500 professionals across fifteen offices, with locations in Madrid, Berlin, London, Milan, Hamburg, Wiesbaden, Trier, Cologne, Stuttgart, Warsaw, Wroclaw, Santiago, Durham, Bristol and Edinburgh.

 

The company says that over the past five years it has generated enough energy to supply 1.7 million homes and has avoided the emission of 1.5 million metric tonnes of CO2 equivalent.

The Ingstetten wind farm, once complete, will represent the latest addition to that operational base, contributing to both Baden-Württemberg's regional energy supply and Germany's broader national targets for renewable power generation.
