Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated SEMICON India 2025 on Tuesday at Yashobhoomi in New Delhi, marking a significant milestone in India's semiconductor ecosystem development. The three-day conference, scheduled for September 2 to 4, aims to develop a strong, resilient, and sustainable semiconductor ecosystem in India.

Vikram 32-Bit Processor Takes Center Stage

Union Minister for Electronics & Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, presented the Vikram 32-bit processor and test chips of four approved projects to PM Modi during the event. The Vikram 32-bit processor represents a major achievement as the first fully “Made-in-India” 32-bit microprocessor qualified for use in the harsh environmental conditions of launch vehicles. The chip has been developed by the ISRO Semiconductor Lab.

Conference Scope and International Participation

SEMICON India 2025 features comprehensive sessions covering the progress of the Semicon India Programme, semiconductor fab and advanced packaging projects, infrastructure readiness, smart manufacturing, innovations in R&D and artificial intelligence, investment opportunities, and the implementation of state-level policies.

Over 350 exhibiting companies from 33 countries and regions will participate in the event, with a record number of global stakeholders expected to attend. The conference is being jointly organized by the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and SEMI, the global semiconductor industry association.

The three-day event brings together industry leaders, innovators, academia, government, and other stakeholders to drive collaboration and technology advancements across the entire supply chain.

India's Semiconductor Mission Progress

In just four years since the launch of the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) in 2021, India has transformed its semiconductor journey from vision to reality. To support this vision, the government announced an INR 76,000 crore Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, of which nearly INR 65,000 crore has already been committed.

SEMICON India 2025 is positioned to display India's redefining role in the global semiconductor ecosystem. The event features nearly 350 exhibitors, over 15,000 expected visitors, 6 country roundtables, 4 country pavilions, and participation from 9 Indian states, offering South Asia's largest platform for the semiconductor and electronics industries.

Strategic Projects and Future Focus

The event highlights India's semiconductor progress by showcasing 10 approved strategic projects, including High-Volume Fabs, Advanced Packaging, Compound Semiconductors, OSATs, and government support for research and start-ups. Under the theme “Building the Next Semiconductor Powerhouse,” the event offers valuable insights into innovations and trends in key areas, including fabs, Advanced packaging, smart manufacturing, AI, supply chain management, sustainability, workforce development, Design, and Startups.

This marks the fourth edition of SEMICON India, following previous conferences held in 2022 (Bengaluru), 2023 (Gandhinagar), and 2024 (Greater Noida). The conference represents a significant step forward in establishing India as a major player in the global semiconductor industry.
