Ocyan Drilling SA has been awarded a contract by Petro Rio SA for the revival of the Frade field and the development of the Wahoo field, both of which are located off the coast of Brazil.
The contract will commence in March 2022 and will allow for the drilling of three wells in the Frade heavy oil and gas field, one producer, and two injectors, followed by the drilling of four producer wells in the Wahoo field.
The contract's initial length will be 500 days, with PetroRio having the option to extend it for another 350 days, divided into 70-day chunks.
The NORBE VI rig, a semisubmersible vessel built-in 2021, will drill the wells. It has dynamic positioning and can drill wells up to 7,500 meters deep in water depths of 2,400 meters.
Frade is located in 1,128 meters of water 370 kilometers off the coast of Rio de Janeiro in the Northern Campos basin of Brazil. Wahoo is 30 to 35 kilometers north of Frade, located in 1,400 meters of water with a carbonate reservoir in the presalt at 5,000 to 7,000 meters. Petro Rio intends to build a production cluster that will be connected to the Frade FPSO.
Petro Rio agreed to buy Total E&P do Brasil Ltda. 's 28.6% stake in Wahoo in March, raising PetroRio's operating stake in the field to 64.3 percent (OGJ Online, Mar. 5, 2021). After acquiring Petrobras' 30% stake in the Frade field in February, Petro Rio is now the sole owner.
