OX2 and Nordkalk are planning to utilize the power from two Swedish offshore wind projects under development to produce green hydrogen for E-fuels. Currently, both 5.5 GW Aurora and 3.9 GW Pleione are still in the early development stage. Both Aurora and Pleione offshore wind projects will be located off the coast of Gotland, Sweden.

The E-fuels will be produced by combining green hydrogen with CO2 captured from Nordkalks carbon capture plants. The fuel will be used for shipping, aviation, and other industries. Earlier EU (European Union) approved a directive that aimed at using fuel derived from green hydrogen for aviation purposes.
The director of Nordkalk stated that the collaboration with OX2 is a significant step towards achieving net zero through e-fuel production. Nordkalk is also conducting a pilot study laying down the foundations that are essential for the project.
Currently, both Aurora and Pleione Offshore wind projects are constructed by OX2. Together these two arrays will produce around 37TWh of power. OX2 is also active in the development of hydrogen infrastructure including pipelines between Finland, Aland, Sweden, and Germany.
About the Aurora offshore wind project
Aurora offshore wind project located in the Baltic Sea is OX2’s largest wind farm project to date. The Turbines will be located offshore, approximately 20 kilometers from Gotland and 30 kilometers from Öland. The project is currently in the early planning phase.

About the Pleione-Ran Offshore Wind project
Apart from Aurora offshore wind farm OX2 is also developing Pleione and Ran offshore wind projects. “Ran” is located 12 km off the eastern coast of Gotland within territorial waters, while Pleione Energy Park is situated about 35 km off the eastern coast of Gotland within the Swedish (EEZ) Exclusive Economic Zone. The project is currently under development.
