All 111 monopiles for the Baltica 2 Offshore Wind Farm have been successfully installed in the Baltic Sea, Ørsted announced, marking the completion of one of the project's most complex offshore construction phases and keeping the 1.5-gigawatt development on schedule for full commercial operation by the end of 2027.
Full Foundation Fleet Now in Place
The installation program encompassed 107 monopiles designated for wind turbines and a further four supporting offshore substations, bringing the total to 111 structures now fixed to the seabed.
The work was carried out in collaboration with marine contractor Van Oord. Ørsted described the completion as arriving on schedule, a milestone the company said reflects the meticulous planning and close collaboration required across teams and suppliers throughout the campaign.
The scale of the foundations involved is considerable. Each monopile measures up to 100 metres in length and weighs approximately 1,900 tonnes. Ørsted attributed the successful execution of the installation program in part to the expertise the company has accumulated over more than three decades of delivering offshore wind projects.
Next Construction Phases Already Underway
With the monopile installation phase concluded, Ørsted confirmed that subsequent offshore construction activities are already in progress. These include the installation of secondary steel structures, offshore substations, and export cables. The sequencing of these phases positions the project to meet its planned commercial operation date at the close of 2027.
Baltica 2 is being developed jointly by Ørsted and the Polish state-controlled energy group PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna. The project is located in the Baltic Sea and, once operational, is intended to deliver renewable energy to Poland while contributing to the country's broader energy independence objectives.

Strategic Significance for Poland's Energy Mix
At 1.5 gigawatts of planned capacity, Baltica 2 represents a major addition to Poland's renewable energy infrastructure. Ørsted has framed the project's progress explicitly in the context of strengthening Polish energy independence, a priority that has gained increased political and economic urgency across Central and Eastern Europe in recent years.
The involvement of PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna as a joint development partner underscores the national strategic dimension of the project alongside its commercial objectives.
The completion of the monopile installation phase removes one of the most logistically demanding elements of the offshore build program. Foundation installation for large-scale offshore wind farms requires precise vessel positioning, coordination of heavy-lift equipment, and the management of weather windows, all of which make it among the most operationally intensive stages of construction.
Ørsted's confirmation that the work finished on schedule signals that the overall project timeline remains intact as it moves into subsequent construction phases.
Powering Your Pipeline: Stay Ahead of Poland's Energy Infrastructure Wave
Poland's power sector is undergoing one of its most ambitious transformation periods in decades, with grid expansions, renewables rollouts, and legacy infrastructure upgrades creating a dense and fast-moving project landscape.
