Ocean Winds has successfully delivered first power from the Îles d’Yeu and Noirmoutier offshore wind farm, marking a major milestone in the project’s development. The milestone follows the start of testing operations on 23 May and represents the initial connection of power to France’s national grid.

The early generation of renewable electricity reinforces France’s ongoing efforts to expand its offshore wind capacity and transition towards a low-carbon energy future.

The grid infrastructure for the Yeu-Noirmoutier project was developed and is operated by Réseau de Transport d’Électricité (RTE), France’s national transmission system operator. This infrastructure enables the delivery of clean energy from the wind farm to consumers across the country.

Full commissioning of the wind farm is expected by the end of 2025. Once operational, it will provide a steady supply of renewable electricity, contributing to national targets for carbon neutrality and energy diversification.

Ocean Winds Expands Presence in France

Marc Hirt, Country Manager for France at Ocean Winds, described the achievement as both a technical success and a strategic milestone. “This first power is not just a symbol of progress—it is a foundational step for our broader ambitions in France’s offshore wind sector,” Hirt said.

The Yeu-Noirmoutier project, also known as EMYN, is one of several major initiatives led by Ocean Winds in France. The company is also advancing the Dieppe-Le Tréport and EFGL offshore wind projects, and was recently awarded a 250 MW floating offshore wind project in the Mediterranean.

Final Phase Underway

The commissioning of the Yeu-Noirmoutier wind farm marks the beginning of the final stretch before full operations commence. With key infrastructure in place and units now producing power, the project remains on schedule to meet its year-end completion target.

As Ocean Winds continues to expand its offshore wind portfolio in France, its growing contribution is expected to play an increasingly central role in the country's renewable energy landscape.
