NLC India Renewables Limited, a 100% subsidiary of NLC India Ltd., has signed a Power Purchase Agreement with Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited for its upcoming 810 MW solar power project in Rajasthan. The agreement was signed on May 07, 2025, in the presence of key officials, including Arti Dogra, Chairperson and Managing Director, DISCOMs and Secretary (Energy), Government of Rajasthan. The project, which is being developed at the Pugal solar park in Bikaner district, marks a significant milestone in NLC India Ltd.'s journey towards becoming a major player in the renewable energy sector.

Project Details

The 810 MW solar power project is expected to generate approximately 2 billion units of green electricity annually and offset approximately 1.5 million metric tonnes of CO2 emissions per year. The project will be established within the infrastructure of the 2000 MW Pugal solar park being developed by RVUNL. The solar park is being developed in the barren lands of Bikaner, which is bestowed with abundant solar radiation. The project was awarded through a competitive tariff-based bidding process by RVUNL and is implemented under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy's Ultra Mega Renewable Energy Power Park scheme. The project is a testament to NLC India Ltd.'s efforts in the field of renewable energy, and it is expected to play a vital role in India's transition to a low-carbon economy. The company is committed to clean and sustainable energy, and this project marks a pivotal moment in its journey towards achieving this goal. With this project, NLC India Ltd.'s cumulative renewable energy capacity under implementation takes a major leap, reinforcing its mission of powering India responsibly with a balanced energy mix of conventional and renewable energy sources.

Renewable Energy Capacity

NLC India Ltd. is the first Central Public Sector Undertaking in the country to establish 1 GW of renewable energy project in India, and it is continuing its pursuits in the field of renewable energy. The company is aiming to achieve 10 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, aligning with India's decarbonisation and energy security goals. The 810 MW Pugal solar project brings the company a step closer to achieving this target.

NLC India Ltd. is also developing 2000 MW renewable energy projects and 3 x 125 MW lignite-based thermal power projects with linked lignite mines in Rajasthan through Joint Venture mode. The company's efforts in the field of renewable energy are expected to have a significant impact on the environment. The reduction in CO2 emissions from the project will contribute to India's goal of reducing its carbon footprint. The project will also generate employment opportunities in the region and contribute to the local economy. NLC India Ltd.'s commitment to renewable energy is expected to inspire other companies to follow suit, leading to a significant increase in the country's renewable energy capacity.
