LS Electric (a South Korean industrial machinery and electronics company) has entered into a strategic partnership with KT Cloud, a leading South Korean cloud, artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure, and data center service provider, to jointly supply and develop power infrastructure for artificial intelligence data centers, as both companies move to capitalize on surging demand for high-capacity computing facilities across South Korea.
Agreement Signed at LS Yongsan Tower
The two companies signed a memorandum of understanding titled "Strategic Partnership for AI Data Centers" at LS Yongsan Tower in Seoul. The signing ceremony was attended by LS Electric CEO Chae Dae-seok and KT Cloud CEO Kim Bong-gyun, along with senior executives from both organizations.
The agreement formalizes cooperation on power facility design and supply, as well as the exchange of next-generation technologies, as the AI data center market trends toward larger facilities requiring substantially higher power loads.
Core Power Equipment to Be Supplied to KT Cloud Projects
Under the terms of the agreement, LS Electric will supply critical power equipment to new AI data center projects being built by KT Cloud. The product lineup includes ultra-high-voltage transformers, gas-insulated switchgear, and power distribution panels, all to be delivered on a timely and stable basis.
The two companies also stated plans to expand the scope of supply in the future to include uninterruptible power supply systems and air conditioning infrastructure.
LS Electric indicated that the partnership covers collaboration from the initial design stage, with both sides working closely together to identify and integrate the most appropriate power solutions for each project from the outset rather than engaging only at the procurement phase.

Modular Data Centers at the Center of Joint Research
A central focus of the partnership is the joint development of power solutions for modular data centers, a format that has gained attention as operators seek to accelerate the pace at which new infrastructure can be brought online.
Modular data centers are built by precisely manufacturing standardized server rooms, power supply networks, and cooling modules at a factory before transporting and assembling them on site.
According to the announcement, this construction approach significantly reduces build time compared with conventional reinforced-concrete construction methods and allows for flexible capacity expansion as demand grows. LS Electric and KT Cloud said they intend to co-develop key power solutions optimized specifically for this type of next-generation AI data center environment.
The growing emphasis on rapid infrastructure deployment has pushed modular data centers into the spotlight within the industry, and the two companies framed their collaboration as a direct response to that trend.
LS Electric Points to Global Track Record in High-Power Infrastructure
LS Electric highlighted its existing position in international markets as part of the context for the new domestic partnership. The company stated that it has secured a series of large-scale orders to supply ultra-high-voltage transformers and high-voltage power distribution systems to hyperscale AI data centers being developed by major technology companies in North America. The company described these wins as evidence of its technical capabilities and delivery competitiveness in the global power infrastructure market.
The company said that the proliferation of generative AI has caused power demand to surge dramatically, making stable and efficient high-power infrastructure technology a decisive competitive factor in data center development.
It positioned the partnership with KT Cloud as a means of strengthening its technical readiness for next-generation AI data center requirements and consolidating its market position domestically.
KT Cloud's Role and Capabilities
LS Electric described KT Cloud as holding top-tier cloud and data center capabilities within South Korea. KT Cloud, a subsidiary of South Korean telecommunications company KT, operates cloud computing and data center services and is actively expanding its AI data center capacity.
The MOU positions KT Cloud as the infrastructure client around which LS Electric's power supply and technology development activities in this partnership will be organized.
LS Electric's official statement characterized the partnership as an opportunity to reinforce its technological response capacity for next-generation AI data centers by leveraging KT Cloud's domestic cloud and data center expertise alongside LS Electric's power systems engineering capabilities.
