Lightsource bp (renewable energy company) and Meta (technology company) have finalized a long-term power purchase agreement to support the development of Mowata Solar, a 172MWdc (150MWac) solar project located in Acadia Parish, Louisiana.
The agreement expands an existing commercial relationship between the two companies and represents a USD 237 million investment by Lightsource bp in Louisiana's energy infrastructure.
Project Details and Timeline
Mowata Solar will be developed in Acadia Parish and is sized at 172 megawatts DC, translating to 150 megawatts AC of generating capacity. Energy produced by the project will be delivered to the local grid rather than directly to Meta's facilities, with the arrangement structured to add new generation capacity to the broader regional electricity system.
Construction on the project is scheduled to begin later in 2026. During that construction phase, the project is expected to create between 250 and 350 jobs. Lightsource bp has framed the project as delivering lasting economic benefits to Acadia Parish beyond the construction period.
Mowata Solar represents the third solar project developed by Lightsource bp in Louisiana. The company's existing Louisiana portfolio includes Prairie Ronde Solar, a 180MWdc project in St. Landry Parish, and Oxbow Solar, a 345MWdc project in Pointe Coupee Parish.

An Expanding Partnership Between Lightsource bp and Meta
The Mowata Solar PPA is not the first agreement between the two companies. In 2022, Meta signed a long-term power purchase agreement for energy generated by Arche Solar, a 134MWdc (107MWac) project located in Gorham Township, Ohio, also managed by Lightsource bp. The new Louisiana agreement marks the continuation and expansion of that commercial relationship.
Amanda Yang, Head of Clean and Renewable Energy at Meta, described the Mowata Solar deal as consistent with the company's broader strategy of expanding energy capacity in the regions where it operates.
"We're committed to ensuring that the communities and grid infrastructure across Louisiana benefit from our presence," Yang said. "Partnering with Lightsource bp to bring 150MWac of new solar energy online through Mowata Solar is a meaningful step; it adds generation to the local grid and supports economic growth in Acadia Parish."
Emilie Wangerman, Lightsource bp's Chief Operating Officer and Head of USA, connected the agreement to the growing energy demands of the technology sector. Community Investment and Biodiversity Commitments
Alongside the commercial agreement, Lightsource bp has outlined a series of community and environmental commitments tied to the Mowata Solar project. In 2025, the company made an initial USD 400,000 contribution to the Acadia Parish Industrial Development Board as part of what it described as a community benefit commitment to the area. The Industrial Development Board directs investments toward local education and infrastructure.
On the environmental side, Lightsource bp has developed a long-term Land Management and Biodiversity Plan for the Mowata Solar site. The plan is intended to support habitat conservation, land restoration, and other biodiversity measures across the project area.
Specific measures include the installation of native Cajun Prairie habitat and local native woody plant species. According to Lightsource bp, these improvements are expected to increase soil health and produce an overall increase in biodiversity across the site, with a particular focus on restoring coastal native habitats.
Lightsource bp's Commercial Framework
Lightsource bp has described its power purchase solutions as designed to work alongside other forms of energy as part of an integrated power strategy for customers.
The company states that it operates under flexible commercial frameworks to tailor solutions around each customer's specific priorities, combining what it describes as grid-ready capacity, technological solutions, and experience in shaping diverse power profiles.
The Mowata Solar announcement follows other recent activity from Lightsource bp across its international portfolio. In June 2026, the company began construction on the Lower Wonga hybrid project in Queensland, Australia, which combines a 380MWdc solar farm with a 281MW battery energy storage system carrying 843MWh of capacity. The company also published its 2025 Sustainability Report in June of this year.
