Leeward Renewable Energy, operating under the name LRE, held a ribbon-cutting event to celebrate construction and operational achievements across a 725-megawatt solar portfolio in Oklahoma, representing approximately USD 1.5 billion in investment and spanning multiple counties across the state.
Portfolio Scope and Geographic Spread
The Oklahoma solar portfolio consists of five distinct project groups spread across three counties. Salt Branch Solar 1 and 2, with a combined capacity of 145 megawatts, along with Huckleberry Solar at 125 megawatts and Mayes Solar at 102 megawatts, are collectively known as the Mayes County Solar Portfolio.
Twelvemile Solar 1 and 2, combining for 153 megawatts, are located in Bryan County. The portfolio's newest and largest individual project, Twelvemile 3 Solar, is a 200 megawatt facility currently under construction in Johnston County.
LRE described the collection of projects as one of the largest solar portfolios in the state of Oklahoma. The Dallas-based company characterized the projects as strategically sited and functionally co-located from an electrical standpoint, with the intent of supporting areas of growing electricity demand.
Google Operations Anchored by Power Agreements
Salt Branch Solar 1 and 2, Huckleberry Solar, Mayes Solar, and Twelvemile Solar 1 and 2 all carry power agreements linked to Google's operations in Oklahoma. LRE stated that these projects help deliver the electricity needed to support Google's growing operations and continued regional development.
The transmission arrangements differ by project. Mayes Solar and Salt Branch Solar 1 deliver electricity under firm transmission service to the Grand River Dam Authority, known as GRDA. Salt Branch 2 and Huckleberry Solar deliver under American Electric Power, or AEP. Twelvemile Solar 1 and 2 deliver under firm transmission service to Oklahoma Gas and Electric, referred to as OG&E.
JT Tolliver, Google's Data Center Operations Lead for Oklahoma and Missouri, commented on the partnership. "Google is committed to growing in a way that supports our neighbors and strengthens the electricity grid," Tolliver said.
"This new agreement with LRE will help bring more power generation online in Oklahoma, contributing to a more robust, affordable, and reliable energy system for all."

Operational Status and Construction Progress
As of the ribbon-cutting event, Twelvemile Solar 1 and 2 and Huckleberry Solar had recently achieved commercial operation. Mayes Solar and Salt Branch Solar were reported to still be advancing through construction, with LRE expecting both to reach commercial operation in the coming months. Twelvemile 3, the 200-megawatt project in Johnston County, remains under active construction.
LRE Chief Executive Officer Jason Allen addressed the significance of the portfolio's development timeline. "This portfolio represents a major investment in Oklahoma's energy future and demonstrates the scale of infrastructure required to support rising electricity demand and long-term economic growth," Allen said. He added that the projects reflect years of collaboration with local communities, landowners, utilities, customers, and development partners.
Economic Impact Across Oklahoma Communities
LRE reported that the Oklahoma projects have collectively supported more than 2,000 construction jobs across the portfolio. Over the operating lives of the projects, the company projected approximately USD 48.8 million in state and local tax revenue, which it said would help fund schools, infrastructure, and essential public services across the region.
Beyond tax contributions, LRE stated that the projects have directed nearly $90,000 in charitable contributions to local organizations. Recipients have included local schools, nonprofit organizations, economic development initiatives, Chambers of Commerce, tribal organizations, and community programs across Oklahoma.
The company described itself as a long-term owner and operator of the projects, indicating an ongoing commitment to the communities where the facilities are located through what it characterized as operational excellence and strong community partnerships.
Grid Reliability and Regional Energy Demand
LRE framed the portfolio's contribution in the context of rising electricity demand across the region. The company stated that the addition of new generation capacity is helping reduce strain on the local grid while supporting growing electricity needs from businesses, communities, and what it described as critical industries across the region.
Allen described the energy produced by these projects as reliable, cost-effective, and domestically produced, positioning the portfolio as infrastructure that supports both business customers like Google and the broader regional grid. LRE noted that the projects contribute to a more diverse energy supply for the state.
Environmental Management on Project Sites
LRE indicated that it has implemented site-specific vegetation and biodiversity management plans across the Oklahoma portfolio, though specific details of those plans were not fully disclosed in materials available at the time of the announcement.
