KIO Data Centers has surpassed USD 900 million in cumulative investment across Mexico and Latin America since I Squared Capital became a shareholder in 2022, the company announced at a ceremony in Queretaro on August 13, 2026.
The milestone was accompanied by the completion of new construction phases at its Queretaro campus, fresh capital commitments for multiple Mexican cities, and a potential project that could rank as the largest data center the company has ever built.
QRO2 Completion Anchors the Queretaro Mega Campus
KIO Data Centers confirmed it has completed phases two and three of QRO2, its flagship facility within the Queretaro Mega Campus. The completed project represents a total investment of USD 170 million deepening the company's footprint in a region that has emerged as one of Mexico's most active corridors for digital infrastructure development.
The Queretaro campus is central to KIO's long-term positioning in Latin America. The company describes itself as the leading digital infrastructure provider in the region, with a presence spanning Mexico, Guatemala, Panama, Colombia, and the Dominican Republic. Its colocation and interconnection services are offered under a carrier-neutral model, with connections to major cloud providers. The company states that more than 90 percent of its energy comes from renewable sources.
More Than $200 Million Committed for New Projects in 2026
Beyond the QRO2 completion, KIO Data Centers has already committed more than USD 200 million during 2026 to new development projects in Mexico City, Monterrey, and Queretaro.
The company framed these investments as a direct response to accelerating demand for cloud computing services, artificial intelligence infrastructure, and mission-critical applications across the region.
The pace of investment reflects a broader acceleration since I Squared Capital's entry into the company's ownership structure four years ago. In that period, KIO has channeled the entirety of the USD 900 million figure into building out and reinforcing what it calls its digital infrastructure platform across Mexico and Latin America.

QRO3 Could Become KIO's Largest Data Center in History
The most significant announcement from the Queretaro event was the disclosure that KIO Data Centers is evaluating a potential investment of up to $1.3 billion USD through 2030 to develop a new facility called QRO3.
If realized, the project would carry approximately 100 megawatts of capacity and would, according to the company, become the largest data center in KIO's history.
The company characterized the evaluation as ongoing, stopping short of announcing a final decision on the project. Nonetheless, the scale of the potential commitment underscores the extent to which KIO is positioning Queretaro as a central node in its long-range infrastructure strategy.
Chief Executive Officer Octavio Camarena described the company's ambitions in national and regional terms. "As a Mexican company, KIO Data Centers today competes with some of the world's leading digital infrastructure operators, developing technological capabilities in Mexico for all of Latin America. We are committed to continuing to invest in strengthening the technological capabilities Mexico needs to seize the opportunities presented by artificial intelligence and the digital economy," he said at the event.
Government Recognition and Economic Impact Projections
The ceremony drew participation from Mexico's Secretary of Economy, Marcelo Ebrard Casaubón, who presented KIO Data Centers with the "Hecho en México" distinction.
The recognition, awarded by the Secretariat of Economy, acknowledges the company's contribution to the development of what the government terms strategic digital infrastructure in the country.
Ebrard Casaubón used the occasion to frame data center investment as a driver of broader economic growth. "We anticipate significant growth in everything related to information, the data economy, artificial intelligence, data centers, data center equipment, and the entire ecosystem surrounding artificial intelligence. This will be an important new driver of economic growth, and Mexico will be part of it, as will all of North America, alongside the United States and Canada," the secretary said.
KIO projected that its expansion strategy will support the creation of more than 8,100 direct and indirect jobs by 2030. The company linked this employment outlook to the development of specialized talent and to strengthening supply chains connected to digital infrastructure across Mexico.
Positioning Mexico as a Regional Digital Hub
KIO Data Centers framed the cumulative announcements as part of a strategy to establish Mexico as one of Latin America's leading digital hubs. The company has operated for more than 20 years and points to international standards for security, availability, and sustainability as defining characteristics of its facilities.
The combination of the QRO2 completion, the USD 200 million in 2026 commitments, the potential QRO3 project, and the government recognition collectively mark what KIO describes as the beginning of a new phase of growth running to the end of the decade. The company's total capital deployment since 2022 now exceeds USD 900 million, a figure that will grow substantially if the QRO3 investment proceeds as outlined.
Mexico's Data Center Boom Is Moving Fast, Is Your Pipeline Keeping Up?
Across Mexico, demand for digital infrastructure is accelerating at a pace that leaves little room for slow intelligence. Hyperscale facilities, colocation campuses, and edge deployments are reshaping the investment landscape, and the organizations winning contracts are the ones who see opportunities before they are publicly obvious.
