JERA Nex bp (offshore wind developer) has completed the acquisition of Sumitomo Corporation's shareholdings in two Belgian offshore wind farms, boosting its ownership in both projects and consolidating its position as a long-term operator in the North Sea.

The Transaction Details

The deal sees JERA Nex bp acquire Sumitomo Corporation's 30% stake in the Northwester 2 offshore wind farm, bringing the company's total ownership of that asset to 100%. In the Nobelwind offshore wind farm, JERA Nex bp has acquired Sumitomo's 39.02% holding, raising its total stake to 80.1% in that project.

Both transactions have now closed, according to the company. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The Assets Involved

Northwester 2 was commissioned in 2020 and has a total installed capacity of 219 megawatts. Nobelwind was commissioned in 2017 and carries a total installed capacity of 165 megawatts, giving the two farms a combined installed capacity of 384 megawatts. Nobelwind was developed as a second phase of JERA Nex bp's earlier Belwind offshore wind farm.

JERA Nex bp developed, constructed, and currently operates both wind farms. The company manages its Belgian operations from a hub located in Ostend.

Strategic Rationale

The company framed the acquisition as consistent with its broader investment strategy, which it describes as focused on disciplined growth through competitive assets in markets where it can function as a long-term owner and operator.

Zlati Christov, Chief Investment Officer at JERA Nex bp, said the transaction strengthens the company's position in a portfolio of assets it already operates and knows well.

"Belgium has been central to our offshore wind journey for more than a decade, and we remain committed to safely and reliably delivering renewable energy through these projects for years to come," Christov said.

The move to increase ownership in operational assets it already manages reflects a pattern in JERA Nex bp's portfolio activity. In January 2026, the company also acquired EnBW's stake in the Mona offshore wind farm and signed a lease agreement with The Crown Estate, indicating ongoing efforts to expand and consolidate its holdings across multiple markets.
