Ireland's NTR and Microsoft sign an 86-MW wind PPA in Sweden

Last Updated on 08th January 2024

NTR Plc, an Irish renewable energy producer and investor, has signed an agreement with Microsoft Corp. to discharge electricity from an 86-MW wind farm project in Sweden.

The corporate power purchase agreement (PPA) is based on the Norra Vedbo wind project, which NTR and Reichmuth Infrastructure, a division of Swiss private bank Reichmuth & Co, jointly own. The agreement is in line with the software giant's ambition to run its data centers in Sweden entirely on carbon-free electricity.

The Norra Vedbo plant is scheduled to open in the fourth quarter of 2022.

To be located in the county of Jonkoping, southern Sweden, the wind farm will be powered by 20 turbines of 4.3 MW each that will be provided by Vestas Wind Systems A/S. The devices are estimated to generate enough energy to power about 44,000 homes for a year.

In May, NTR completed financial close on the Norra Vedbo project. It then claimed to have secured a 10-year PPA without revealing the power offtaker's name or any other details.
