Chinese battery manufacturer Gotion has launched global delivery for what it describes as Africa's largest AC-coupled energy storage project.

Fifty Trucks Depart From Jinzhai and Nantong as Full-Scale Delivery Begins

On Sept. 28, fifty heavy-duty trucks loaded with the company's self-developed Gotion Grid 5 MWh storage systems departed simultaneously from its Jinzhai and Nantong facilities, marking the start of full-scale delivery for the project.

The announcement, made on Sept. 30, 2026, from Jinzhai, China, highlights what the company characterizes as an industry-leading pace: the first shipment was completed within three months of signing, a timeline Gotion attributes its success to its vertically integrated supply chain and upstream-downstream coordination.

The Nefertiti and Horus Projects in Egypt

The Gotion Grid systems are destined for Egypt's Nefertiti and Horus projects, which the company identifies as the country's first large-scale standalone storage projects and, once completed, Africa's largest standalone storage facilities. AMEA Power is developing the projects, while China Energy Engineering Group is building them, and Gotion's solutions are powering the installations.

According to the company, the completed facilities are intended to strengthen grid stability, support the integration of solar and wind power, and advance Egypt's 2030 clean energy goals.

Engineering for Extreme Conditions

Gotion states that its storage systems have been upgraded to withstand extreme heat, sandstorms, and salt fog, conditions characteristic of the Egyptian environment where the projects will operate. The company says the systems offer high-voltage stability, high safety, and millisecond-level response.

The deployments include specific roles at two established renewable energy sites: the systems are expected to enhance solar consumption at Benban and provide flexible peak-shaving for the Zafarana wind farm.

Full DC-to-AC Integration

A central element of Gotion's offering on this project is its full DC-to-AC integration. The company says this encompasses in-house cells, battery management systems (BMS), and DC systems on the DC side, along with AC-side power conversion systems (PCS) and transformers.

With this end-to-end integration, Gotion Grid is positioned to serve as a critical buffer for grid stability and peak-shaving.

The company frames its ability to complete the first shipment within three months of signing as demonstrating its strength in large-scale storage integration, global supply chain coordination, and localized delivery.

Executive Comments on the Partnership

Hussain Al Nowais, Chairman of AMEA Power, described the shipment as opening "a new stage of broader cooperation." He stated that AMEA Power is "proud and satisfied" with its partnership with Gotion and is actively exploring new opportunities across the Middle East and Africa.

Li Chen, Senior Vice President of Gotion and President of Gotion Americas, characterized Egypt as Gotion's key step into the Middle East and North Africa region. According to Chen, the project proves that Gotion "can deliver end-to-end, operate locally, and commit for the long term."

Related Activity in the Region

Gotion's activity in the Middle East extends beyond the Egyptian project. The company has also announced that Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) awarded Gotion High-Tech 6 GWh in Saudi Arabia's first utility-scale battery storage program, representing approximately 75 percent of the kingdom's first utility-scale BESS tender.

Context: Standalone Storage and Grid Services

The Nefertiti and Horus projects are described by Gotion as standalone storage facilities, meaning they are independent of any single generation asset and are designed instead to provide system-level services.

In this configuration, the company says the storage systems will act as a buffer supporting grid stability and enabling peak-shaving, shifting energy supply to better match demand across the day.

The integration of renewable generation such as the Benban solar site and the Zafarana wind farm is cited by the company as a beneficiary of the storage capacity, with the systems helping to absorb solar output and smooth the delivery of wind power.

What Was Shipped

The first consignment consisted of fifty heavy-duty truckloads of Gotion Grid 5MWh storage systems, dispatched simultaneously from two of Gotion's manufacturing locations, Jinzhai and Nantong.

The 5MWh systems represent the company's self-developed storage product line, and the departure of the fifty trucks marks the beginning of what the company describes as full-scale delivery for the Egyptian projects.

Significance of the Three-Month Timeline

Gotion places particular emphasis on the speed of execution. The company states that signing through first shipment was achieved in three months, and it credits its vertically integrated supply chain, covering cells, BMS, DC systems, PCS, and transformers, along with coordination across its upstream and downstream operations for enabling that pace.

The company presents this achievement as setting an industry-leading benchmark for delivery speed on projects of this scale.

Parties Involved

The project brings together three named organizations in the roles disclosed by the company: AMEA Power as developer, China Energy Engineering Group as constructor, and Gotion as the storage technology provider. The facilities, once completed, are positioned by Gotion as the largest standalone storage installations on the African continent and as the first large-scale projects of their kind in Egypt.
