GE Vernova has reached an agreement with Eurus Energy Holdings Corp. to supply seven wind turbines for the Eurus Hiyamizutouge wind farm in Aomori Prefecture, Japan.

The deal, arranged through GE Vernova's Onshore Wind Energy division, covers a project with a total planned capacity of 29.4 MW and includes a two-year service contract with an option to extend for an additional two years.

Project Location and Configuration

The Eurus Hiyamizutou wind farm will be situated between the city of Mutsu and the village of Higashidori in Aomori Prefecture, Japan. Each of the seven turbines will have a capacity of 4.2 MW, bringing the facility's combined installed capacity to 29.4 MW.

The turbines will feature a 117-meter configuration based on GE Vernova's 4 MW platform, which has accumulated more than two million operating hours. The platform is designed for wind conditions in Japan and incorporates technology intended to support reliable operation and efficient utilization of the country's wind resources.

The project involves collaboration between Eurus Energy, the local communities of Mutsu and Higashidori, administrative agencies, and other parties involved in its development.

GE Vernova's Footprint in Japan

The Hiyamizutouge agreement extends an already substantial relationship between GE Vernova and the Japanese energy market. The company's technology currently accounts for approximately 25 percent of Japan's installed onshore wind capacity.

GE Vernova also reports that its equipment is present in roughly 50 percent of the country's installed high-power gas turbine capacity.

GE Vernova reported securing orders totaling 339 MW in Japan. That portfolio spans projects from both utility companies and independent power producers.

Globally, the company's wind business operates more than 59,000 turbines. The new Aomori order is described by the company as a further reinforcement of its 4 MW onshore platform's position in the Japanese market.

The new wind farm also deepens the working relationship between GE Vernova and Eurus Energy, specifically expanding cooperation between the two companies within Japan's renewable energy generation sector.

Japan's Renewable Energy Ambitions

GE Vernova and Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry have also established a joint working group to examine challenges and opportunities related to energy security and innovation.

The formation of this group reflects the broader policy and commercial alignment taking place between international energy equipment suppliers and Japanese government bodies as the country pursues its generation targets.

The 29.4 MW Eurus Hiyamizutouge project will contribute onshore wind generation capacity to Aomori Prefecture upon completion, adding to the renewable energy infrastructure of a region where the project has drawn the involvement of local communities and multiple administrative agencies.
