Poland's state gas transmission operator GAZ-SYSTEM has completed a mandatory In-line Inspection of the 250-kilometre Gdańsk–Gustorzyn gas pipeline, with results confirming the high quality of construction works carried out along the entire route.
The company described the positive outcome as a major milestone in the delivery of the onshore component of its FSRU Programme, which is designed to bring liquefied natural gas ashore from a new floating terminal under construction in the Gulf of Gdańsk.
How the Inspection Was Conducted
The inspection involved passing a specialised tool through the interior of the pipeline. The device, equipped with sensors and other electronic components and commonly referred to in the industry as a smart pig, is designed to carry out a detailed assessment of the pipeline's technical condition and to detect even minor anomalies within the pipe wall and structure.
According to GAZ-SYSTEM, the results of the inspection confirmed that the construction works completed along the full length of the route met the required standard. The company released a video illustrating the In-line Inspection process alongside its announcement.
What Remains to Be Completed
With the inspection now cleared, GAZ-SYSTEM said the onshore component of the FSRU Programme is in its finalisation phase for the linear section of the project.
Works currently ongoing include land reclamation, restoration of the drainage system, marking out of the gas pipeline route, and construction activity on above-ground facilities.
These tasks represent the concluding stages of what has been a major civil engineering undertaking stretching across 250 kilometres of Polish territory between Gdańsk on the Baltic coast and Gustorzyn in central Poland.

NRRP Financing and Loan Conditions Met
The Gdańsk–Gustorzyn pipeline is being financed in part through Poland's National Recovery and Resilience Plan. In June 2025, GAZ-SYSTEM signed a loan agreement with Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego for a total amount of USD 573 million specifically for the construction of the onshore pipeline component.
The loan is funded under the NRRP framework. GAZ-SYSTEM stated that the successful result of the In-line Inspection means the company has now satisfied all conditions attached to the NRRP programme, a requirement that had been tied to this specific technical milestone.
The FSRU Terminal Project
The onshore pipeline is one element of a broader infrastructure programme centred on a Floating Storage and Regasification Unit terminal being built in the Gulf of Gdańsk. The FSRU Terminal project, as described by GAZ-SYSTEM, encompasses the construction of the FSRU vessel itself along with both offshore and onshore infrastructure.
The combined system is intended to enable the unloading, in-process storage, and regasification of liquefied natural gas delivered by sea. GAZ-SYSTEM characterised the FSRU Terminal as a strategic investment project designed to strengthen Poland's energy security and diversify the country's sources of natural gas supply.
The Gdańsk–Gustorzyn pipeline, once operational, will serve as the transport link between the regasification facility and Poland's broader transmission network, ultimately allowing gas to reach customers across Poland and the wider region.
Regional Hub Ambitions and Timeline
GAZ-SYSTEM has described the FSRU Terminal in the Gulf of Gdańsk as intended to become a major pillar of a regional natural gas hub in Poland. Commercial regasification operations at the facility are scheduled to commence in early 2028. GAZ-SYSTEM is the operator responsible for natural gas transmission across
Poland's primary pipeline infrastructure, including the Baltic Pipe undersea gas pipeline connecting Poland to Norwegian gas fields via Denmark. The company also owns and operates the existing LNG Terminal in Swinoujście on Poland's Baltic coast and holds ownership of Gas Storage Poland, which acts as operator of the country's natural gas storage facilities.
