Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV) Australia has announced the completion of the 300 MWac Walla Walla Solar Farm, marking the largest project in the company's Australian portfolio. The solar facility, located in the Riverina region of New South Wales, represents a major milestone in FRV Australia's renewable energy development efforts.

Project Scale and Capacity

The Walla Walla Solar Farm extends across 605 hectares and is designed to produce enough clean energy to power approximately 90,000 Australian homes annually. As a 300 MWac large-scale solar installation, it stands as one of the largest solar projects in New South Wales, contributing significantly to the state's renewable energy infrastructure. The project brings FRV Australia's total operational portfolio to eight projects with a combined power capacity of 993MW.

This expansion demonstrates the company's growing presence in Australia's renewable energy sector, where it operates as part of Jameel Energy and the Canadian infrastructure fund OMERS.

Economic Impact and Employment

During the construction phase, the Walla Walla Solar Farm generated substantial economic benefits for the local region. The project created up to 350 construction jobs, providing employment opportunities that stimulated regional economic activity and supported local services throughout the development period. The solar farm plays a critical role in supporting New South Wales' renewable energy targets, aligning with the State Government's broader energy transition goals. Its strategic location in the Riverina region positions it as a key contributor to the state's clean energy generation capacity.

Corporate Partnership and Power Purchase Agreement

Prior to construction commencement, FRV Australia secured a significant 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Microsoft. This long-term contract ensures that renewable energy generated by the Walla Walla Solar Farm will be supplied to the electricity grid, providing Microsoft with clean energy to support its operations. The partnership with Microsoft represents a notable collaboration between FRV Australia and a major global technology company, demonstrating the growing corporate demand for renewable energy solutions.

Carlo Frigerio, CEO of FRV Australia, emphasized that the project reflects “the strength of our partnerships with global leaders like Microsoft.”

Construction and Development Details

Gransolar served as the EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) contractor for the Walla Walla Solar Farm development. The company was responsible for the technical implementation and construction management of the large-scale solar installation. The completion of Walla Walla comes as FRV Australia continues to expand its renewable energy portfolio through additional projects.

Earlier in 2025, the company announced the acquisition of the 190 MW Axedale Hybrid Solar & Battery Storage Project. Additionally, FRV Australia is currently constructing the 100 MW/200 MWh Terang Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Victoria, demonstrating the company's diversification into energy storage solutions alongside solar generation. FRV Australia operates as a leading developer of sustainable energy solutions, positioning itself at the center of Australia's power industry transformation.

The company's approach encompasses comprehensive renewable energy development, from project conception through operational management, supporting the country's transition toward cleaner energy sources. The Walla Walla Solar Farm's completion on October 1, 2025, represents both a technical achievement and a demonstration of FRV Australia's capability to deliver complex infrastructure projects.

As Frigerio noted, “Walla Walla is our largest project in Australia and a strong demonstration of our commitment to the country's renewable energy goals. It reflects the capability of our team to deliver complex infrastructure.”
