Eurowind Energy Acquires EnBW's Swedish Renewable Platform Including 120 MW of Operating Wind Assets in Sweden

Eurowind Energy has signed an agreement to purchase EnBW's Swedish renewable energy platform, adding approximately 120 megawatts of operating onshore wind capacity, a project development portfolio, and an established operations and maintenance business to its holdings in the country.

Deal Scope and Strategic Rationale

The acquisition brings together three distinct but interconnected elements under Eurowind Energy's ownership: an operational generation portfolio of around 120 MW of onshore wind assets, a pipeline of development-stage renewable energy projects, and a functioning operations and maintenance business with an existing local workforce.

Eurowind Energy chief executive Jens Rasmussen described the transaction as a natural extension of the company's existing activities in Sweden. "This is a business we know well, and it fits well with Eurowind Energy," he said.

"It strengthens our presence in Sweden with operating assets, a good addition to our current development opportunities in Sweden, and experienced local colleagues."

The company characterized the operating assets as contributing to its balance sheet from the day the deal closes, while the development portfolio is intended to sustain a longer-term pipeline of renewable energy projects in the Swedish market.

The operations and maintenance arm is seen as providing an immediate structural foundation in the country rather than requiring Eurowind Energy to build that capability from scratch.

Connected Wind Services Extends Into Sweden

The transaction has a second significant dimension beyond Eurowind Energy's core development and generation business. Connected Wind Services, an operations and maintenance provider, will use the acquired Swedish service business as the basis for establishing a presence in the country for the first time.

Rasmussen noted that the acquisition gives Connected Wind Services "a strong platform for establishing and growing its business in Sweden," framing the expansion as part of a broader ambition to position the company as a Nordic-scale provider of wind energy operations and maintenance services.

The move into Sweden follows a pattern established earlier in 2025. Eurowind Energy acquired Connected Wind Services Denmark from EnBW earlier this year, meaning the latest transaction represents the second time the two companies have done business together within a relatively short period.

EnBW has therefore been a source of both the Danish and Swedish components of what Connected Wind Services is now assembling into a regional service offering.

EnBW's Position in the Transaction

For EnBW, the divestiture of its Swedish renewable platform is consistent with a strategic shift the German energy company has described in broader terms. With approximately 31,500 employees and around 5.5 million customers across its electricity, heat, and gas operations, EnBW has stated it is in the process of transforming from a traditional energy utility into what it calls a sustainable infrastructure partner.

That transformation involves directing investment and growth activity toward expanding distribution and transmission grids for electricity, gas and hydrogen, as well as continuing to develop renewable energy capacity. The sale of the Swedish platform to Eurowind Energy represents the disposal of an established but geographically specific asset as part of that reorientation.

The financial terms of the transaction have not been disclosed, with both parties agreeing to keep those details private.

Regulatory Approval and Expected Timeline

Closing of the deal is contingent on clearance under Sweden's foreign direct investment screening regime. Sweden, like a number of other European countries, has introduced mechanisms to review acquisitions of domestic assets by foreign entities, particularly where those assets relate to energy infrastructure.

Eurowind Energy has indicated it expects the regulatory process to be completed and the transaction to close during the third quarter of 2026. No complications in obtaining that approval have been flagged by either party at this stage.

Eurowind Energy's Broader European Activity

Eurowind Energy describes itself as active across the full lifecycle of renewable energy projects, from development and construction through to long-term operation.

The company's portfolio spans onshore wind, solar, battery storage, biogas, hydrogen and Power-to-X technologies, and it operates across multiple European markets.

The Swedish acquisition builds on what the company already has in place in the country. Rasmussen described the deal as offering a "good addition" to Eurowind Energy's current development opportunities in Sweden, suggesting an existing pipeline into which the newly acquired assets and projects will be integrated.

The addition of approximately 120 MW of operating wind capacity provides an immediate income-generating foundation in Sweden, while the development portfolio extends the company's visibility over future project opportunities in a market where renewable energy buildout remains a priority at the policy level.
