European Energy has begun construction on the Indian Queens solar and battery storage project in Cornwall, United Kingdom, marking a significant step in the Danish developer's expansion of integrated renewable energy assets in the British market.
Project Specifications and Timeline
Construction commenced in May 2026 and is expected to run for approximately one year. The project is scheduled to achieve a grid connection in the first half of 2027.
The solar installation carries a capacity of 67.96 MW and is expected to generate around 60 GWh of electricity annually. Alongside the solar component, the development includes a co-located battery energy storage system with a capacity of 95 MWh.
The project is located in Cornwall and follows what European Energy describes as a model already established in the region, where co-located solar and battery storage are used to enhance asset performance and grid integration.

Contracting Structure and Revenue Visibility
The Indian Queens project is fully contracted, with offtake for the solar generation secured through a corporate power purchase agreement, referred to as a cPPA.
The battery energy storage system is backed by a capacity market contract, referred to as a CMC. European Energy says this combination provides long-term revenue visibility and enhances the asset's bankability.
Mark Evans, Vice President and Head of UK and Ireland at European Energy, described the asset as representative of what the UK market is increasingly seeking.
"Indian Queens reflects the type of asset increasingly sought after in the UK market: a solar project combined with battery storage backed with cPPA and CMC for the BESS," Evans said.
"The structure provides both generation and flexibility, supporting stable revenues and aligning with evolving market requirements. Additionally, we get generation and storage on a single grid connection, making much more efficient use of the grid infrastructure." Evans also noted continued strong investor interest in assets that are either construction-ready or already under execution.

Storage Integration and Grid Flexibility
The inclusion of the 95 MWh battery system at the point of development rather than as a later addition is central to the project's design logic. European Energy says the integration of storage enables optimization of power delivery, supports participation in ancillary services markets, and enhances overall asset flexibility.
Thorvald Spanggaard, Executive Vice President and Head of Project Development at European Energy, said the project demonstrates how building storage into a development from the outset can strengthen the investment case.
"By combining solar generation with a sizeable battery system, the asset is positioned to capture multiple value streams while supporting grid stability," Spanggaard said. "This approach is becoming standard for new developments and is relevant for investors seeking exposure to scalable and optimized renewable platforms."
EPC Delivery and Construction Scope
European Energy is delivering the Indian Queens project under a full engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) scope, covering both the solar installation and the co-located battery energy storage system.
The company says this integrated approach allows optimization across civil works, electrical infrastructure, and grid connection, while supporting efficient execution and coordination between the generation and storage assets.
Poul Jacobsen, Executive Vice President and Head of EPC at European Energy, said the EPC setup is designed to support quality control, construction scheduling, and long-term operational performance throughout the asset lifecycle.
"The integrated approach allows optimization across civil works, electrical infrastructure, and grid connection, while supporting efficient execution and coordination between generation and storage assets," Jacobsen said.
Broader Pipeline Context
European Energy describes the Indian Queens project as part of a wider pipeline of solar and storage developments intended to meet investor demand for what the company characterizes as de-risked, integrated energy assets across Europe.
Once operational, the project is expected to contribute to the United Kingdom's renewable energy capacity while offering a combination of contracted revenues and operational flexibility.
The developer is headquartered in Copenhagen, Denmark. The Indian Queens development represents one of its active construction projects in the UK and Ireland region, where the company continues to pursue hybrid solar and storage assets structured around long-term revenue contracts.
Powering Your Pipeline: Stay Ahead of the United Kingdom's Energy Infrastructure Race
Every gigawatt of new capacity installed across the United Kingdom tells a story, and the organizations that read that story earliest are the ones winning contracts, forging partnerships, and positioning themselves at the center of the continent's energy transition.
