Envision Energy to Open 3rd Manufacturing Unit in India, Expand Workforce

Updated on Jul 18, 2025, 04:00 AM IST

Envision Energy India, the domestic arm of global wind turbine manufacturer Envision Energy, has announced plans to open its third manufacturing unit in Gujarat, signaling a major expansion of its operations in the country. The new plant will focus on blade manufacturing with a capacity of 2 gigawatts (GW) and is expected to significantly boost the company's production capabilities and employment footprint.

Strategic Expansion Across India

According to RPV Prasad, Managing Director of Envision Energy India, the company plans to more than double its workforce to over 7,000 by FY28, up from the current 3,000. The Gujarat unit alone is expected to employ 6,000 people by mid-2027, while another 1,000 positions are planned at its existing Pune facility.

The company has already invested ₹500 crore in two manufacturing facilities one in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, with a 3 GW per annum blade manufacturing capacity, and another in Pune for nacelle and hub assembly. Envision is also preparing to scale up production in Pune from 3 GW to 4.5 GW within the next year.

Responding to Localisation Mandate

India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has proposed a localisation requirement mandating original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to domestically produce key wind turbine components, including gearboxes and generators, within six months of notification. Envision Energy has requested that the timeline be extended to 12 months, citing cost and logistical challenges involved in rapid localisation.

"We are committed to local manufacturing, but a one-year window would provide a more feasible path for compliance and cost control," Prasad said.

Export Strategy on Hold for Now

While Envision Energy India’s current focus remains on domestic demand, the company intends to enter export markets post-2027, once its Indian operations are fully scaled. Prasad noted that India remains the immediate priority due to a strong order book of 15 GW, spread across 60 projects in six states.

Outlook

Envision’s decision to expand its manufacturing base in India underscores the growing role of the country in global wind turbine supply chains. The move aligns with India’s push to bolster domestic renewable energy manufacturing under its Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) initiative.

The upcoming Gujarat facility will further solidify Envision’s position as a key player in India's clean energy sector and contribute significantly to local job creation and industrial development. With sustained domestic demand, a growing project pipeline, and increasing regulatory support, Envision Energy is positioning itself for long-term growth in one of the world’s most dynamic renewable energy markets.
