Italian energy company Eni has entered into a long-term liquefied natural gas sales agreement with Thailand's Gulf Development Company, marking a significant expansion of the company's presence in the Asian market. The deal reinforces Eni's strategy to grow a diversified global portfolio and secure stable, multi-year relationships in key international markets.

Agreement Terms and Delivery Details

Under the transaction, Eni will sell 0.8 million tons of LNG per annum for 10 years to Gulf, one of Thailand's largest private power producers. The LNG deliveries will commence in 2027 at regasification terminals located in Thailand. This represents Eni's first long-term LNG supply agreement to Thailand, designed to strengthen the company's presence in Asia.

The new agreement builds upon an existing relationship between the two companies. In 2024, Eni and Gulf signed a 2-year deal for the supply of approximately 0.5 million tons of LNG per annum starting in 2025, establishing the foundation for this expanded partnership.

Strategic Market Expansion

The agreement aligns with Eni's broader strategy to diversify its global LNG footprint and expand its customer base in high-potential markets. Thailand is a key market for Eni's Asian expansion, with Gulf Development Company serving as a significant partner in the region's energy sector, one of the country's largest private power producers. This long-term supply arrangement provides Eni with a stable revenue stream and reinforces the company's commitment to developing multi-year relationships in strategic international markets.

The deal demonstrates Eni's ability to secure substantial contracts in competitive Asian energy markets.

Global LNG Portfolio Growth

The Thai agreement supports Eni's ambitious growth targets for its LNG business. The company aims to expand its LNG portfolio to approximately 20 million tons per annum by 2030, leveraging projects across multiple continents and regions. Eni's global LNG expansion strategy includes projects in Congo, Mozambique, the United States, Indonesia, and other countries.

This diversified geographical approach allows the company to tap into various supply sources while serving customers across different regions and markets. The 0.8 MTPA commitment to Gulf Development Company represents a substantial portion of Eni's planned capacity expansion, providing a concrete foundation for the company's 2030 objectives. The 10-year term of the agreement ensures long-term revenue visibility and market presence in Southeast Asia.
