Dutch energy company Eneco has acquired Prowind GmbH's onshore wind project development business in the Netherlands, adding approximately 260 MW of development potential to its renewable energy portfolio. The transaction was announced on November 3, 2025, in Rotterdam.
Strategic Focus Shift for Prowind
Prowind GmbH decided to sell its Dutch wind development operations to concentrate its resources on the German market. Johannes Busmann, owner and Managing Director of Prowind GmbH, stated that the company is “currently seeing strong momentum in the German wind energy sector.” He explained that by focusing efforts on the German market, Prowind can “strategically leverage this development and implement projects more quickly.”
Busmann expressed satisfaction with the agreement, saying the company is “very pleased that Eneco has agreed to take over our Dutch development business” and believes “our people and projects will be in good hands there.” The sale allows Prowind to maintain “a complete focus on the opportunities presented by the German market.”
Portfolio Expansion for Eneco
The acquisition represents a significant expansion of Eneco's wind energy development capabilities across the Netherlands. Erwin Leeuwis, Eneco's director of Renewable Power, described the acquired wind projects as “a great addition to Eneco's portfolio.” He noted that much of the development is located in the east of the Netherlands, which will provide the company with “a wider spread of sustainable energy projects.”
The transaction supports Eneco's broader sustainability ambitions and provides new opportunities for the energy company to advance its goal of producing more sustainable energy. Leeuwis emphasized that the agreement will “make a positive contribution to our sustainability ambition.”

Employee Transition and Project Continuity
All six employees currently working for Prowind in the Netherlands will transfer to Eneco as part of the acquisition. These employees will continue in their roles as wind energy developers, maintaining their involvement in the transferred projects. Specific projects mentioned include the Horst & Telgt and De Lutte wind farms.
Leeuwis highlighted the importance of retaining the existing team, stating that “with Prowind's Dutch employees joining Eneco and remaining involved with the projects,” he is confident the agreement will benefit the company's sustainability objectives.
Prowind's Continued Netherlands Operations
While selling its wind development business, Prowind will maintain its presence in the Netherlands through existing operational projects. The company will continue operating several facilities across the country, including the Broekstraat solar farm located in Klarenbeek and the citizen-initiated Koningspleij wind farm in Arnhem.
Additional operational assets that remain under Prowind's control include a rooftop solar energy system in Hengevelde and the Solar-Transferium energy project in Zwolle. The Zwolle project represents an innovative approach to renewable energy infrastructure, combining multiple technologies including a solar carport, electric vehicle charging stations, battery storage systems, and an integrated energy management system.
The transaction allows both companies to optimize their strategic positioning within their respective markets while ensuring continuity for ongoing renewable energy projects and the employees involved in their development and operation.
