EnBW Commissions 80 MW Solar Park in Langenenslingen-Wilflingen
EnBW has commissioned its solar park in Langenenslingen-Wilflingen, located in the district of Biberach in southwest Germany. The solar park has a total output of 80 MW and is generated by 146,016 modules. It is equivalent to supplying around 30,000 households every year. This makes it the largest solar park in the federal state of Baden-Württemberg.
Project Development
The project began planning in 2019, with the help of project developer SolNet, who secured the land and negotiated the land-use planning process. EnBW produced the detailed technical plans and identified project optimization measures.
The lease agreement was signed in March 2020, and the decision to draw up the plans was taken in June of the same year. The land-use planning process was completed at the end of 2022. EnBW was then granted the building permit in June 2023, with construction work getting underway in February 2024.
Construction and Operation
The construction of the solar park took about a year to complete, covering an area of around 80 ha. The electricity generated is fed into the grid around 4 km away in Beuren, where there is a connection to the region's 110-kV high-voltage grid via the company's substation.
Operating the solar park will cut carbon emissions by around 60,000 metric tons per year when compared to conventional forms of power generation. The total cost of the solar park, which EnBW built without any state funding, was in the mid-double-digit million range.
Environmental Considerations
EnBW took the interests of people and nature into account during the project, conducting a comprehensive preliminary archaeological survey and supervision of the excavation work to preserve any potential historical finds.
The company also established compensatory and replacement measures to protect and support the native flora and fauna, including the preservation of existing orchard trees and the creation of 30 ponds for amphibians.
The official opening ceremony is due to be held in July 2025, with high-ranking representatives from the world of politics expected to attend. The total cost of the solar park was in the mid-double-digit million range, built without any state funding.
