Emergy Completes Sale of 168 MW Alibunar Wind Project in Serbia, Europe to Heavy Energy International

Updated on Jun 05, 2026, 04:04 PM IST

Oslo-based renewable energy developer Emergy has formally closed the sale of the 168 MW Alibunar wind project in Serbia to Heavy Energy International (a renewable energy company), with ownership of the construction-ready asset now fully transferred following the fulfillment of all closing conditions.

Transaction Closes on a Major Serbian Wind Development

The Alibunar project, which comprises two components known as Alibunar Windfarm A and Alibunar Windfarm B, was developed by Emergy in partnership with WV International.

The project is described as one of Serbia's most significant renewable energy developments, and the buyer, Heavy Energy International, is expected to commence construction activities in the near term following the transfer of ownership.

The completion of the sale marks the end of a development phase that brought the project to a construction-ready state, a milestone that Emergy's chief executive framed as central to the company's broader regional strategy.

"The successful closing of this transaction represents a significant achievement for Emergy and our partners," said Jan-Philip Suhren, CEO of Emergy. "We are proud to have developed the Alibunar project to this stage and to hand over a high-quality, construction-ready renewable energy asset to Heavy Energy International. We look forward to seeing the project move into construction and ultimately deliver clean energy to Serbia for decades to come."

Project's Role in Serbia's Energy Transition

According to Emergy, the Alibunar project is expected to make a substantial contribution to Serbia's renewable energy ambitions and long-term energy security. The country has been expanding its renewable energy capacity as part of broader efforts to diversify its power generation mix and meet longer-term sustainability targets.

The project's scale, at 168 MW across two wind farm sites in the Alibunar area, positions it as a notable addition to Serbia's developing wind energy infrastructure once construction begins and the facility becomes operational.

Emergy's Southeast European Development Strategy

Emergy, which is headquartered in Oslo and describes itself as a Nordic renewable energy developer focused on Southeast Europe, characterizes the transaction as consistent with its core approach of originating, developing, and maturing large-scale renewable energy projects across the region.

The company stated that it continues to advance a substantial pipeline of wind and solar projects throughout Southeast Europe together with its partners.

The Alibunar deal demonstrates the company's model of taking projects through the development and permitting phases before transferring them to buyers positioned to move forward with construction and operations. Emergy did not disclose the financial terms of the transaction.

Partners and Advisers Acknowledged

In announcing the closing, Emergy extended thanks to Heavy Energy International, development partner WV International, advisers, local authorities, and all other stakeholders involved in the process, citing their professionalism and collaboration throughout the transaction.

The involvement of WV International as a development partner throughout the project's preparation phase was noted by Emergy as integral to bringing the asset to a condition suitable for transfer and near-term construction commencement.
