EDF Power Solutions UK has finished installing all 20 turbines at its Stranoch wind farm in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland, marking a significant construction milestone as the project moves into its final phase ahead of full operations expected in 2027.
Installation Complete, Energisation Underway
The completion of turbine installation at the 102MW site, located in the Dumfries and Galloway region, follows an earlier logistics operation that saw 189 key component parts transported from the Port of Cairnryan to the site earlier in 2026. Turbine manufacturer Vestas and principal contractor I&H Brown, a Scottish family-run business, carried out the installation work across the 20-turbine site.
With the physical installation now complete, electrical works to connect the wind farm to the grid are currently underway, carried out by Power Systems UK. Full energisation is expected to take place before operations commence next year.
Yusuf Patel, Chief Technical Officer at EDF Power Solutions UK, said: "We are now entering the final phase in Stranoch wind farm's construction as we start to move towards energisation and full operations. We continue to be immensely grateful to the local residents for their patience as we progress through the final months of construction."
UK's Most Powerful Turbine in the Fleet
Among the 20 installed turbines is the Vestas EnVentus V150, described as the UK's most powerful turbine and one of the first of its kind to be installed anywhere in the country.
The inclusion of the EnVentus V150 at Stranoch represents a notable marker for the project beyond its headline capacity figure, distinguishing the site within the broader landscape of UK onshore wind development.

Minimising Disruption During Construction
Throughout the construction process, EDF Power Solutions UK said it worked with its contractors to reduce disruption for residents and visitors in the area surrounding the wind farm. The company deployed a letter drop system alongside a text and email distribution service to keep people informed of ongoing activity on site.
Community Funding During Construction Phase
While the wind farm has been under development, EDF Power Solutions UK has operated a community sponsorship fund that has awarded USD 54000 to local community groups over the past two years.
The fund provides small-scale grants for projects intended to benefit people living in and around the communities closest to the Stranoch development, with a particular focus on those from vulnerable or isolated demographics.
Recipients of grants awarded earlier in 2026 include a summer pony camp in Stranraer aimed at enabling more young people to attend, a Wigtownshire group supporting people with disabilities and additional support needs, and several other organisations covering costs for events targeting elderly people and those experiencing social isolation. A further funding round is scheduled to open in December for new applications.
Substantial Community Benefit Fund to Follow Operations
Once the wind farm moves into full operation, the existing sponsorship fund will be replaced by a dedicated community benefit fund worth approximately USD 688500 per annum. Discussions with local communities about how this fund will be administered are described as ongoing.
The scale of the community benefit fund reflects a broader model that EDF Power Solutions UK has applied across its wind farm portfolio. The fund's annual value represents a considerable long-term financial contribution to the communities surrounding the Stranoch site, which sits within one of Scotland's key onshore wind development areas in Dumfries and Galloway.
Project Context and Contractor Involvement
The Stranoch wind farm project has involved a combination of international and domestic contractors. Vestas, the Danish turbine manufacturer, supplied and installed the turbines, while I&H Brown, the Scottish family business serving as principal contractor, has overseen the broader construction programme. Power Systems UK is responsible for the grid connection electrical works now underway.
The Port of Cairnryan served as the logistics gateway for the delivery of major components to the site, with 189 parts transported inland earlier in 2026 as part of the preparation for the installation phase that has now concluded.
The project announcement, dated 15 September 2026, positions Stranoch as entering its final stretch before becoming a fully operational contributor to the UK's onshore wind capacity, with the 102MW site set to generate power from 2027.
