EDF Power Solutions North America has placed an order for 20 EnVentus V162-6.2 MW wind turbines from Vestas for the Haute-Chaudière wind project in Québec, reinforcing its commitment to expanding renewable energy across Canada.

The project, awarded as part of Hydro-Québec’s recent call for tenders, is expected to deliver clean, secure power to tens of thousands of homes. EDF also signed a 10-year Active Output Management 5000 (AOM 5000) service agreement with Vestas to ensure long-term performance and reliability of the turbines.

Commissioning is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026, with turbine delivery beginning in the second quarter.

Local Economic Impact and Job Creation

The Haute-Chaudière wind project is set to support economic development in the region. EDF and Vestas have partnered with Québec-based Marmen for tower supply, which will generate approximately 130 direct jobs in Trois-Rivières.

“The project not only advances clean energy but also contributes to local job creation and industrial activity,” an EDF spokesperson noted.

This wind farm is one of three projects awarded to EDF Power Solutions through Hydro-Québec’s procurement initiative aimed at expanding wind capacity in the province.

EDF and Vestas share a longstanding partnership, having collaborated on more than 2.9 GW of wind projects across North America over the past 20 years. In Canada alone, EDF has invested over USD 7 billion since 2008, developing and operating 2.6 GW of wind and solar projects.

The company’s Canadian portfolio includes facilities currently in service or under construction, reflecting a steady focus on delivering renewable power at scale.
