EDF Power Solutions North America (renewable energy company) and Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, Masdar, have signed 15-year power purchase agreements covering the output of the BigBeau Solar and Storage Project in Kern County, California, locking in a long-term commercial arrangement with Southern California Edison for an operational renewable energy facility.

Project Details and Commercial Terms

The agreements cover electricity generation from the BigBeau project's 128-megawatt solar plant, measured in alternating current, as well as output from its 40 MW battery energy storage system, which carries a capacity of 160 megawatt-hours.

The project has been operational since December 2022, and deliveries to Southern California Edison under the new agreements commenced on February 1, 2026.

The BigBeau project is co-owned by EDF Power Solutions North America and Masdar, and its location in Kern County places it within one of California's most active regions for utility-scale renewable energy development.

Statements From Both Partners

Dustin Priemer, Director of Asset Management for Masdar Americas, described the agreements as consistent with the company's broader strategy in the United States.

"This agreement forms a part of Masdar's growing portfolio in the United States, reflecting our focus on scaling reliable, utility-scale clean power," Priemer said.

"We are appreciative of our growing partnership with Southern California Edison and our shared commitment to investing in new generation capacity to meet growing energy demand in California."

Jacqueline de Fresart, Associate Director of Origination and Power Marketing at EDF Power Solutions North America, emphasized the company's relationship with the California utility.

"We are very pleased to support Southern California Edison's clean energy goals and provide reliable and efficient energy to its customers from our operating BigBeau project," de Fresart said. "We are excited to partner with SCE again and look forward to more opportunities together."

Broader Partnership Between EDF and Masdar

The BigBeau project is one of seven projects that Masdar and EDF Power Solutions have agreed to develop together under an existing partnership. The full portfolio of seven projects carries a combined capacity of 1.1 gigawatts. The BigBeau agreements represent one of the first long-term commercial milestones to be publicly announced under that joint development arrangement.

EDF Power Solutions describes itself as one of the largest renewable energy developers in North America, citing more than 35 years of experience and 26 gigawatts of wind, solar, and storage projects developed across the continent. The company provides energy solutions spanning grid-scale power generation through to electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

Masdar's U.S. Market Commitment

Masdar, which is headquartered in Abu Dhabi, has been active in the United States since 2019. The company has described its presence in the American market as a long-term commitment, with an emphasis on delivering clean energy solutions designed to support energy resilience and independence.

To date, Masdar has invested several billion dollars in the United States and has announced plans to develop a portfolio of up to 25 gigawatts of capacity within the next decade.

The BigBeau agreements add to that accumulating portfolio and extend the commercial relationship between Masdar and Southern California Edison, one of the largest electric utilities in the United States.

The utility serves a substantial portion of Southern California's population, and securing long-term supply from operational renewable facilities is consistent with California's legislatively mandated clean energy targets.

Storage Component Adds Grid Value

The inclusion of a 160 megawatt-hour battery energy storage system alongside the solar generation capacity reflects an increasingly common configuration for utility-scale renewable projects in California, where grid operators have pushed developers to pair intermittent generation with dispatchable storage.

The BigBeau system's 40 MW power rating allows the stored energy to be discharged at a meaningful rate, providing Southern California Edison with a degree of scheduling flexibility that solar generation alone would not offer.

The 15-year term of the power purchase agreements provides both parties with long-duration revenue and supply certainty, a structure that has become a standard framework for financing and operating large-scale renewable energy infrastructure in the United States.

Powering Smarter Decisions Across the United States Energy Sector

Every megawatt of opportunity in the power sector comes with a window, and that window doesn't stay open long. For developers, contractors, and investors operating across the United States, knowing where projects stand at every stage of their lifecycle is the difference between winning work and watching it go to a competitor.

The Global Project Tracking (GPT) platform by Blackridge Research was built to close that gap. Drawing on continuously updated intelligence across the full power project landscape, it gives energy professionals a structured, reliable view of market activity from coast to coast, whether you're monitoring grid-scale renewables, conventional generation, or transmission infrastructure.

Teams operating in the United States power market use the platform to align business development efforts with real project momentum, reducing the time spent chasing leads that aren't ready and increasing focus on opportunities that are actively moving forward.
