Dieppe–Le Tréport Offshore Wind Farm Reaches Halfway Point With 31st Turbine Installed in France

Ocean Winds has announced that construction of the Dieppe–Le Tréport offshore wind farm off the French coast has reached a significant milestone, with the 31st turbine now installed and the project officially at the halfway point of its offshore turbine construction phase.

Milestone Marks Midpoint of a 62-Turbine Project

The announcement, made by OW Ocean Winds via LinkedIn, confirms that installation work is continuing at a steady pace. The project calls for a total of 62 turbines once complete, meaning the placement of the 31st unit represents the precise midpoint of the offshore construction programme. Each turbine stands at 211 metres in height, making it a substantial structure within the French offshore wind landscape.

The 500-megawatt project is being developed through a partnership between Ocean Winds, Sumitomo Corporation, and Banque des Territoires. OW Ocean Winds credited the progress to strong collaboration between these project partners, as well as the many suppliers, contractors, and local companies contributing to the build.

A Long Road to Construction

The project's journey to this point has been notably lengthy. Commenting on the milestone, industry observer Arne Dyck noted on the LinkedIn post that it was "fascinating to see Le Tréport becoming more and more of a reality after so many years of engineering, design, and planning."

The remark reflects the extended development timeline that preceded the current construction phase, though the specific duration of that planning period was not detailed in the announcement.

Part of France's Broader Energy Transition

OW Ocean Winds framed the milestone within the wider context of France's energy transition ambitions. The company stated that once operational, the Dieppe–Le Tréport wind farm will contribute to France's energy transition and to the growth of offshore wind capacity in the country. At 500 MW, the project represents a meaningful addition to France's offshore wind portfolio.

France has been working to expand its offshore wind sector as part of its broader decarbonisation strategy, and projects such as Dieppe–Le Tréport are central to that effort.

The involvement of Banque des Territoires, a French public financial institution, alongside the international presence of Sumitomo Corporation and OW Ocean Winds, underscores the mixed public and private nature of the financing and partnership structure supporting the development.

Construction Continues Offshore

With 31 turbines now standing in the water and 31 more to be installed, the offshore construction crew faces the second half of the installation campaign. OW Ocean Winds did not provide a projected completion date in the announcement, nor did it specify the installation vessel or vessels being used for the work.

The company did, however, indicate that installation is proceeding at a steady pace, suggesting no significant delays have been reported at this stage of the programme.

OW Ocean Winds' Role in European Offshore Wind

OW Ocean Winds is a joint venture between EDP Renewables and Engie and operates across multiple offshore wind markets in Europe and beyond. The Dieppe–Le Tréport project represents one of its active construction projects in France, a market that has taken longer than many of its European neighbours to bring offshore wind capacity into operation at scale.

The progress at Dieppe–Le Tréport will be closely watched by the French offshore wind industry, as it represents one of the country's pioneering commercial-scale offshore wind developments.

The completion of turbine installation, when it comes, will mark the end of a major construction phase before the project moves toward commissioning and eventual power generation.
