DHL Group and LONGi Solar Sign MoU to Deploy Solar Technologies Across European Facilities

DHL Group and LONGi Solar have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to deepen cooperation on renewable energy deployment and lower-emission logistics, with plans to install advanced solar technologies at DHL facilities across Europe and expand the logistics services DHL provides to support LONGi's growing global business.

A Partnership Combining Solar Deployment and Logistics

The agreement, announced on July 23, 2026, brings together two distinct but complementary objectives. On one side, DHL Group will deploy LONGi's solar technologies, including the company's latest Building-Integrated Photovoltaics technology, across its buildings and logistics infrastructure in Europe.

 

On the other side, DHL will broaden the logistics services it provides to LONGi, supporting the Chinese solar manufacturer's expanding global operations and new business lines.

The BIPV solutions referenced in the agreement are based on high-efficiency back contact technology, which LONGi says is designed to maximize energy yield on large commercial rooftops while maintaining long-term operational reliability.

 

DHL describes the partnership as part of its ambition to become the "green logistics of choice," while LONGi's stated mission is to "make the best of solar energy to build a green world."

 

Building on an Existing Relationship

The MoU does not represent an entirely new relationship between the two companies. DHL already supports LONGi through several of its service divisions, including DHL Express, DHL Global Forwarding Ocean Freight, and DGF Industrial Projects services, which include factory-moving solutions.

 

The new agreement is intended to expand that existing logistics partnership to keep pace with what both parties describe as LONGi's fast-growing global operations.

Under the expanded arrangement, DHL will take on enhanced business-to-consumer logistics solutions, marketing-related fulfillment services, and tailored logistics support for LONGi's new battery energy storage system portfolio.

 

The inclusion of battery energy storage logistics marks a notable extension beyond the core solar module business that previously defined the companies' working relationship.

What the MoU Covers

The MoU sets out a range of areas in which DHL Group and LONGi plan to work together. These include the deployment of LONGi BIPV and other distributed solar technologies at DHL facilities, the co-development of solar-plus-storage solutions tailored for logistics applications, and joint exploration of renewable hydrogen and next-generation renewable energy concepts.

The two companies also plan to pursue early-access and co-creation initiatives designed to pilot and test LONGi innovations within DHL's global network. Additionally, the agreement calls for close senior executive collaboration to evaluate progress and identify emerging opportunities as the partnership matures.

The MoU also envisions the expansion of DHL's logistics support for LONGi in a way that would build what the companies describe as scalable, end-to-end logistics pathways capable of enabling broader global renewable energy adoption.

Executive Perspectives

Michael Wiedemann, President of the Energy Sector at DHL Customer Solutions and Innovation, framed the agreement as evidence of how renewable energy innovation and logistics can reinforce one another.

 

"Alongside deploying LONGi's solar technologies across our operations, we are supporting their global expansion with integrated services that help bring their solutions to market faster," Wiedemann said.

Alex Li, General Manager of Western Europe at LONGi, described his company as a globally leading integrated solar and storage company and said the partnership with DHL provides a strong platform to scale solutions globally. Fitting Into DHL's Broader Strategy

The agreement with LONGi connects directly to DHL Group's wider corporate strategy, which the company calls "Strategy 2030: Accelerating Sustainable Growth."

 

As part of that strategy, DHL is developing end-to-end logistics solutions across eight segments it has identified as key growth sectors: wind, solar, electric vehicles and batteries, battery and energy storage systems, EV charging, grid, alternative fuels, and hydrogen.

Solar energy and what DHL terms New Energy form a central pillar of that strategic direction. The company's broader sustainability roadmap also includes modernizing facilities, improving building efficiency, and expanding the use of renewable energy throughout its network.

 

The MoU with LONGi is described as providing a structured platform to advance those decarbonization measures through integrated solar-plus-storage solutions.

LONGi's Position in the Solar Market

LONGi Solar is described in the announcement as a global leader in high-efficiency solar technologies. The company's BIPV technology, which forms one of the focal points of the DHL partnership, is positioned for deployment in complex commercial and industrial environments.

 

LONGi has also moved into battery energy storage systems, a business area that the expanded logistics agreement with DHL is specifically designed to support.
