CtrlS Datacenters has signed a letter of intent (LoI) with the Bihar government to invest USD 1.05 billion in a proposed 150 MW hyperscale AI factory in Bodh Gaya, while also inaugurating a USD 42 million data center in Patna with an initial IT load capacity of 12 MW.

Double Announcement in Bihar

The two announcements, made together, expand the company's planned infrastructure footprint in Bihar at a time when demand for AI computing, cloud services, and data center capacity continues to grow.

According to the company, the investments signal a potential expansion of AI and cloud infrastructure options in eastern India for customers and technology partners, although the extent of the opportunity will depend on when the proposed capacity comes online, how it is equipped and which customers and service providers use it.

LoI Leaves Timeline Undisclosed.

The proposed Bodh Gaya facility represents a separate and larger investment from the newly opened Patna site. CtrlS has not disclosed a construction or commissioning timeline for the project, and the letter of intent does not establish when the planned capacity will become operational. Details such as power arrangements, customer commitments, and implementation milestones also remain undisclosed.

Company founder and CEO Sridhar Pinnapureddy said the investments would strengthen Bihar's digital infrastructure and support the development of its IT ecosystem. He also credited the state government's policy environment and incentives with supporting the company's investment plans.

Patna Facility Targets Enterprises and Hyperscalers

The new Patna data center is located in the Patliputra Industrial Area and currently provides 12 MW of IT load capacity, with scope for expansion based on demand.

CtrlS said the facility would "support the infrastructure requirements of enterprises, government institutions, hyperscalers, and technology businesses." It is intended to provide additional data center capacity for customers in Bihar and the wider eastern India region.

The company describes the facility as designed for disaster resilience and energy efficiency, with military-grade security. However, CtrlS has not provided further technical specifications in the information available.

For IT service providers and systems integrators serving customers in eastern India, the expansion adds to the region's available data center infrastructure. That said, CtrlS has not announced specific channel partnerships, reseller arrangements, or partner programs linked to either Bihar project.

Broader Edge Expansion Plans

The Bihar developments form part of CtrlS' broader expansion strategy. The company intends to establish more than 20 edge data centers across Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities in India, bringing computing capacity closer to emerging demand centers and supporting services that require low latency.

CtrlS, which began operations in 2007, says it operates 19 data centers across nine markets in India and plans to build more than 4.4 GW of data center capacity by 2030.

The company has not provided a detailed rollout schedule for the planned edge facilities, nor has it specified how much of its 2030 capacity target is operational, under construction, or still in the planning stage.

The proposed 150 MW AI factory in Bodh Gaya would add to these ambitions, although its development timeline, power arrangements, customer commitments, and implementation milestones remain undisclosed.
