Chevron Awards Contract for Jansz-Lo Compression Engineering

Last Updated on 08th January 2024

Chevron has awarded Worley, an engineering and construction services contract for its recently sanctioned $4 billion Jansz-Io compression project 200 km offshore Western Australia.

The contract involves detailed engineering, design, and construction management services for the power transmission and communication components.

The contract's worth was not disclosed, but it was awarded after Worley completed the project's pre-FEED and FEED phases.

Jansz-Io is a critical component of Chevron's Gorgon project. This phase of construction will use undersea compression technology to ensure long-term natural gas supply from the Jansz-Io field, which is piped to Barrow Island to fuel the island's onshore infrastructure, which includes three LNG trains and a domestic gas plant.

Baker Hughes is supplying the subsea compression manifold technology, Aker Solutions is delivering the all-electric subsea gas compression system, and ABB is supplying the total electrical power system for the Jansz-Io project.

Chevron owns 47.3% of the Gorgon joint venture as the operator. ExxonMobil has a 25% stake, Shell has a 25% stake, Osaka Gas has a 1.25%, Tokyo Gas has a 1% stake, and JERA has a 0.417%.
