Certarus, the mobile compressed natural gas subsidiary of Superior Plus Corp., announced that it is commissioning a new CNG supply hub southeast of Salt Lake City, Utah, and has been awarded a contract to serve as the primary natural gas supplier for a 60 MW hyperscale data center project in the region. The hub is scheduled to come online this month, with the data center expected to begin operations in early summer 2026.
A Strategic Hub in a High-Growth Region
The Utah expansion marks another step in Certarus's effort to position supply nodes across North America to serve customers who require natural gas delivery ahead of permanent grid and pipeline infrastructure.
The new hub will supply both industrial customers and the hyperscale data center, which represents one of the larger single-project contracts the company has publicly disclosed. Dale Winger, President of Certarus, framed the development as part of a broader structural shift rather than a short-term market opportunity.
"What we are seeing is a structural shift, not a temporary spike. Across both data center and industrial markets, customers are facing a common challenge: energy infrastructure that cannot keep pace with demand. Certarus provides a credible, scalable solution to that challenge. This Utah hub is one node in a growing network of strategically positioned supply points that allow us to serve customers quickly and efficiently across multiple end markets," Winger said.
The company describes the Utah hub and the associated data center contract as the latest in a series of recent wins across data center and industrial segments, reflecting what it characterizes as growing market recognition of its capabilities.
AI and High-Performance Computing Driving Demand
According to Certarus, hyperscale data center development driven by artificial intelligence and high-performance computing is accelerating across North America, creating urgent demand for reliable power that can be deployed before permanent grid and pipeline infrastructure is in place.
The company's mobile CNG platform is positioned as a solution for that infrastructure gap, allowing data center operators to begin operations without waiting for fixed energy connections to be built and commissioned.
Industrial customers in the region are also driving demand, with companies seeking flexible natural gas supply to support operations, manage peak demand, and maintain continuity in environments where traditional infrastructure is constrained or still being developed. Certarus stated that its platform is designed to serve customers through both early-stage project deployment and long-term operations.

Fleet and Technology Capabilities
Certarus describes itself as operating the largest portable compression fleet in the industry and the largest CNG transport trailer fleet in North America. The company says these two assets together provide what it characterizes as unmatched deployment scale, flexibility, and redundancy for customers requiring large-volume gas supply.
In addition to its transport and compression assets, Certarus has developed proprietary high-flow pressure-reduction systems that it says are engineered specifically for prime power and industrial applications.
The company also operates an integrated gas supply and logistics platform, which it describes as enabling turnkey energy delivery without dependence on fixed infrastructure.
Certarus noted that its services can function as backup and supplemental supply alongside future pipeline connections, positioning the platform as compatible with, rather than a replacement for, permanent infrastructure as it is eventually built out.
The company's field operations team, which it says has a track record of executing complex, large-scale deployments, is cited as another differentiating factor when serving customers who need to deploy quickly and scale efficiently.
Corporate Structure and Parent Company
Certarus operates as a wholly owned subsidiary of Superior Plus Corp., which trades on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the ticker SPB. Superior Plus describes itself as one of North America's largest low-carbon energy distributors, serving residential, commercial, industrial, and agricultural customers with propane, CNG, renewable natural gas, and related products and services.
The company operates across two primary segments: North American propane distribution and CNG and energy solutions through Certarus. Certarus is headquartered in Houston, Texas, and describes its core business as delivering large-volume natural gas supply to industrial and power generation customers in locations where pipeline access is limited or supplemental supply is required.
The company serves as a full-service energy delivery partner from project inception through long-term operations, according to its corporate description.
Data Center Market Context
The 60 MW contract in Utah places Certarus in a market segment that has seen significant attention from energy suppliers as artificial intelligence infrastructure buildout continues to accelerate across the United States.
Hyperscale facilities at that scale require continuous, high-volume energy supply, and the lag between data center construction timelines and utility or pipeline infrastructure development has opened demand for mobile and virtual pipeline solutions.
Certarus characterized the Utah hub as one node in what it described as a growing network of strategically positioned supply points, suggesting the company intends to continue expanding its geographic footprint as data center and industrial demand grows in regions where permanent energy infrastructure has not yet kept pace.
