Papendrecht-based marine services company Boskalis has been awarded a contract by Zeevonk, the joint venture between Vattenfall and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, for the transport and offshore installation of the inter-array cable system for phase 1 of the Zeevonk Offshore Wind Farm in the Dutch North Sea. The value of the contract is considered sizable, which Boskalis defines as a contract worth between USD 56.5 million and USD 169.5 million.
The announcement was made in a press release dated 1 October 2026 from the company's home port of Papendrecht in the Netherlands.
Scope of Work
The contract scope covers the transport and installation of approximately 149 kilometers of 66 kV inter-array cables, which will connect 69 wind turbines within the offshore wind farm. In addition to the cable laying work, Boskalis will carry out cable testing and termination activities as well as the installation of the cable protection systems.
The work also extends beyond installation itself. Boskalis will perform survey activities and seabed intervention works, for which the company will deploy one of its subsea rock installation vessels.
The transport of the cable from the manufacturing facility in Eemshaven, the Netherlands, to the wind farm, together with the offshore installation campaign, is planned to be executed using Boskalis' cable-laying vessel BOKA Ocean, which the company describes as state-of-the-art.
Engineering activities are expected to commence shortly, with offshore installation currently planned for 2029.
About the Zeevonk Offshore Wind Farm
The Zeevonk Offshore Wind Farm is located approximately 45 nautical miles northwest of IJmuiden in the Netherlands. Upon completion, the wind farm will have a total installed capacity of approximately 2 gigawatts, making it one of the largest offshore renewable energy developments in the Netherlands.
The project will be developed in two phases of approximately 1 GW each. The Boskalis scope relates to phase 1, which has a planned commercial operation date in 2029.
Zeevonk itself is a joint venture between Vattenfall and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, the two companies that awarded the contract to Boskalis.
