The 1,000 MW total proposed capacity would be erected in two 500 MW phases, with 30 to 40 floating wind turbines deployed per phase. BlueFloat Energy plans to start the permitting process in 2021 and expects it to be completed in 2023. The project will be developed in collaboration with the Spanish engineering firm Sener. The floating wind farm might be operational in 2026 if everything goes according to plan.
The developer claims that the project would assist to offset 21 million tonnes of CO2 emissions and will be conducted in a way that is sustainable for all stakeholders, including the fishing and tourism industries.
