HS2 has shortlisted the bidders for the role of Phase 2a design and delivery partner (DDP) for the next phase of the UK's high-speed rail network.
The new 57.93km stretch will connect the West Midlands with Crewe. AMS JV – Atkins / Mace Consult / Systra, Jacobs UK, and 2 Connect JV – Aecom Limited / Costain Integrated Services are among the selected bids.
The winning bidder for the £500 million contract will collaborate with HS2 on the design and delivery of the new segment. It entails the coordination and management of contracts for the railway line's detailed design and construction.
There are also 17 viaducts, two tunnels, 65 bridges, and track along the railway route in Phase 2a.
It is expected to create job and business opportunities. The winning bidder is also likely to be revealed next summer.
"The Phase 2a section of HS2 is a major investment in the region's future low carbon transport infrastructure, providing an essential link between the West Midlands and northern England," said HS2 Procurement and Supply Chain director Andrew Cubitt.
“This latest procurement will facilitate the benefits HS2 is set to bring to the region, before any trains have even started running, helping the UK to build back better from the pandemic.”
Skanska Costain STRABAG joint venture (SCS JV), HS2's major civils contractor, recently awarded STRABAG a contract for the fabrication of concrete segments for the London tunnels part of HS2.
