Energy developer BeGreen and energy trader Danske Commodities have expanded their existing partnership to include the optimisation of a co-located battery energy storage system at the Ingerslev Å solar park in Denmark, the two companies announced on 12 August 2026.
A Co-Located Solar and Storage Facility in Norddjurs
Ingerslev Å is situated in Norddjurs Municipality in Denmark's DK1 price area. The solar park carries a generation capacity of 48 MW and is now being paired with a battery energy storage system carrying a storage capacity of 20 MW and 40 MWh. T
ogether, the combined facility is capable of covering the electricity consumption of approximately 20,000 households, which represents around 54% of the entire municipality's electricity needs.
The solar park itself has been in operation since June 2025. The battery energy storage system will now be integrated directly within the existing solar park, marking an extension of a partnership that was already in place for the solar generation side of the project.
Expanded Roles for Danske Commodities
Under the terms of the new agreement, Danske Commodities takes on an expanded role at the site. The company has been acting the as balance responsible party for Ingerslev Å Solar Park and will now additionally serve as the balancing service provider for the co-located battery. In practice, this means Danske Commodities will optimise the battery asset across wholesale power markets as well as ancillary services markets.
Jesper Tronborg, Senior Vice President of Origination and New Markets at Danske Commodities, said the addition of the battery opens up further revenue potential for the project.
"By optimising the asset across wholesale power markets as well as ancillary services markets, we can unlock additional revenue opportunities and help maximise the long-term value of the project for our partners," Tronborg said.
The commercial logic behind integrating storage with solar generation centres on the ability to capture and deploy energy at times when it is most valuable. The battery system enables excess solar generation during periods of peak production to be stored and then dispatched at times of higher electricity demand and stronger market prices, improving both the utilisation and the value of the renewable energy produced at the park.

BeGreen's Perspective on the Partnership Extension
Mathias Vedsted Therkildsen, Chief Commercial Officer at BeGreen, described the move as a natural progression of the relationship between the two companies.
"With Danske Commodities now also optimising the battery at Ingerslev Å, we can make even better use of the solar power we produce. It's a natural next step in our partnership, and a good example of how solar and storage together can deliver more reliable, more flexible renewable energy to the grid," Therkildsen said.
BeGreen is described as an integrated renewable power producer that develops and builds onshore energy facilities across Denmark and Sweden, with a focus on solar parks and battery storage systems.
The company owns its energy parks and operates them with what it describes as a long-term perspective, with consideration for neighbours, nature, and local communities. BeGreen is a wholly owned subsidiary of the international energy company Equinor.
Flexibility for the Power Market
Beyond the commercial benefits to the two partners, the expanded optimisation agreement is framed by both companies as a contribution to broader power market flexibility.
The ability to store solar energy and release it according to demand and price signals is increasingly significant in electricity markets that are absorbing greater volumes of variable renewable generation.
Ingerslev Å's position in the DK1 price area, which covers western Denmark, places it within a market zone that already carries considerable renewable generation capacity and where flexibility services are in demand.
