Poland's first offshore wind farm has crossed a significant construction threshold, with Baltic Power confirming the successful installation of its 50th turbine out of a total 76 planned, as the project moves into a critical phase of mandatory power and infrastructure testing.
Construction Progress and Current Status
The Baltic Power offshore wind farm, a joint venture between ORLEN and Northland Power, announced the milestone. With the installation of the remaining 26 turbines continuing and offshore cable works ongoing, the project is now described as being at more than 80 percent completion of its construction campaign. The full turbine installation campaign is expected to conclude in the second half of 2026.
According to the project's published status update, all 78 foundations and transition pieces have been fully installed, with that phase of construction complete.
Both offshore substations are prepared for commissioning, as are the onshore substation and grid connection. The service base in Łeba is already operational, with the first operations phase contracts secured. The installation campaign is being executed by Cadeler using a jack-up vessel, supported by construction and service operation vessels, known as CSOVs.
Testing and Commissioning Underway
Alongside the ongoing turbine installations, the project has commenced what it describes as extensive test and commissioning works. These are intended to lead to the integration and energization of both the offshore and onshore infrastructure, ultimately enabling the first test power delivery to Poland's national grid.
Maciej Stryjecki, CEO of Baltic Power, described the scope of work involved. "As we are installing the last remaining turbines and proceed with offshore cable works, we commence extensive test and commissioning works, leading to integration and energization of offshore and onshore infrastructure of the farm and the first test power delivery to the national grid. These works are unprecedented in Poland and require the exceptional collaboration between multiple teams from our project and grid operator," Stryjecki said.
Jens Poulsen, Project Director and Board Member of Baltic Power, outlined the significance of the commissioning stage.
"The commissioning works are a critical stage of every offshore wind project. Besides the intense work of offshore vessel crews, there are multiple quality control tests, integration of operational systems, and safety drills to be carried out. They are mandatory for the upcoming inspections, permitting procedures, and certifications that involve numerous authorities and auditors. We have to ensure the utmost safety and reliability of the farm infrastructure before it becomes part of the national power system," Poulsen said.

Turbine Specifications and Firsts
Baltic Power is among the first two projects globally to install 15 MW turbines manufactured by Vestas, which the company describes as currently the biggest turbine model delivered by European suppliers. Each turbine, together with its foundation, exceeds 250 meters in total height. The swept area of the turbines' 115.5-meter blades is described as larger than six football fields.
The project also carries a distinction related to materials use. Baltic Power is identified as the first offshore wind project to use recycled steel in the top sections of multiple towers, a measure the company says will reduce their carbon footprint by approximately 10 percent.
Manufacturing connections to Poland are also present in the supply chain. Several nacelles for the Vestas turbines have been manufactured locally at a factory in Szczecin.
Scale and Significance for Poland
Once fully operational, Baltic Power is projected to have a capacity of approximately 1.2 gigawatts and to generate up to 4 terawatt-hours of electricity annually. The project states this figure represents around 3 percent of Poland's current national electricity demand.
The wind farm is located approximately 23 kilometers from the shore, near the municipalities of Choczewo and Łeba, and covers an area of 130 square kilometers in the Baltic Sea.
Baltic Power holds the distinction of being both the most advanced offshore wind project in Poland and the first to commence offshore installations in the country.
Looking Ahead to Operations
Planning for the farm's long-term operational phase is already underway. In early June 2026, Baltic Power announced the signing of the first key contracts for operations and maintenance, with the service base in Łeba set to serve as the operations and maintenance center for approximately 30 years once construction concludes. The project noted a significant participation of Polish suppliers in those contracts.
