atNorth has announced its expansion into Norway with the acquisition of land for a major new data center campus in Haugaland, marking the first time the Nordic colocation and built-to-suit provider has established a presence across all five Nordic countries.
A New Mega Site in Western Norway
The company has secured a 36-hectare plot within Haugaland Business Park for the development of NOR01, a planned facility designed to support high-density workloads and hyperscale deployments.
The site will launch with an initial capacity of 120 megawatts, with a planned ramp-up to 350 megawatts to accommodate future demand. Power availability for the site is projected for 2028.
To support that power delivery, two substations will be constructed in connection with the project. One will be developed by Statnett, Norway's transmission system operator, and the other by Fagne, the regional grid provider.
atNorth said it is also actively exploring heat reuse opportunities in partnership with local stakeholders within the business park as part of its broader sustainability strategy.

Completing the Nordic Map
The Haugaland announcement represents a geographic milestone for atNorth, which is headquartered in Reykjavik, Iceland, and now counts Norway as part of its operational footprint alongside Iceland, Sweden, Finland, and Denmark.
The company currently operates eight data centers across the Nordics and has four mega sites under development, including facilities in Kouvola, Finland, Ølgod, Denmark, and Sollefteå, Sweden, in addition to the newly announced Norwegian site. An additional metro site is also under development in Stockholm, Sweden.
Eyjólfur Magnús Kristinsson, CEO of atNorth, described Norway as a long-term strategic priority for the company.
"Haugaland Business Park is a strong industrial region that offers the ideal combination of renewable energy, excellent connectivity, and a naturally cool climate, making it a highly attractive location for future-focused, AI workloads," he said. "We look forward to collaborating with the local community to deliver world-class digital infrastructure in a responsible way."

Norway's Renewable Energy Advantage
Norway has become an increasingly prominent destination for large-scale data center investment, driven by an energy mix dominated by renewable sources, political and economic stability, and low-latency network connectivity to key European and global markets.
The country's cool Nordic climate also reduces reliance on mechanical cooling systems, which, atNorth says, results in improved energy efficiency and reduced carbon emissions.
NOR01 is specifically designed to serve data-intensive workloads, including machine learning, artificial intelligence, and both private and public cloud platforms.
The site will accommodate enterprises housing their own infrastructure as well as built-to-suit projects for hyperscaler businesses requiring large-scale, customised data center space.
Local Economic Impact
The project has received a warm reception from the local government. Monika Lindanger, Mayor of Tysvær Municipality, said the development would bring new investment and innovation to the region alongside training and employment opportunities for the local community. "We're proud to be part of this next chapter in the Nordic data center evolution," she said.
At full operational capacity, atNorth said the NOR01 site is expected to support approximately 200 people on site. That headcount would include in-house staff such as data center technicians and electricians, as well as contractors responsible for security, equipment servicing, and round-the-clock maintenance.
AI and HPC Driving Expansion
The announcement of NOR01 comes as part of a sustained period of growth for atNorth across the Nordic region. In addition to the Norwegian site, the company has recently announced its SWE04 mega site in Sollefteå, Sweden, expanded two of its existing data centers in Iceland, and added metro sites in Sweden and Finland.
The company positions itself as a provider focused on artificial intelligence, high-performance computing, and large-scale digital transformation for enterprise clients.
The announcement was made directly from Haugaland, where the land acquisition has been confirmed. Construction timelines beyond the 2028 power availability date were not disclosed in the announcement.
