Argentina's national government has formally awarded its Alma SADI battery energy storage tender, allocating 700.5 megawatts across 20 projects to five companies spanning seven regions of the country.
The adjudication was completed through Resolution No. 155/2026 of the Secretariat of Energy under the Ministry of Economy, marking the conclusion of a competitive procurement process that drew far greater private sector interest than officials had anticipated.
Scale of the Tender and Investment
The awarded capacity carries an estimated investment of USD 700 million in what the government describes as the first stage of incorporating battery energy storage systems, known by the Spanish acronym BESS, into critical nodes of the Argentine Interconnection System, or SADI. The resolution finalizes months of technical evaluation and economic envelope openings that began in late May of this year.
The sheer volume of interest that preceded the award distinguished the process from more modest procurement rounds seen elsewhere in the region. On May 27, the government received 235 technical offers representing 8,338 megawatts of proposed capacity, a figure more than eleven times the 700-megawatt target that officials had set as the procurement objective.
The technical evaluation phase concluded with the opening of economic envelopes on June 24, after which the Wholesale Electricity Market Administrator, known as CAMMESA, produced the pre-adjudication report that formed the basis for the final resolution.
The Five Winning Companies
Five companies were selected across the 20 awarded projects. GENNEIA received the largest allocation with seven projects, followed closely by DQD Energy with eight projects.
360 Energy Solar was awarded three projects, while ALUAR and INTERMEPRO each received one project. The distribution across those five firms reflects a mix of established Argentine energy developers alongside what the government characterized as broad national and international market participation.

Geographic Distribution Across the Country
The government emphasized the federal character of the Alma SADI program, with projects spread across regions the authorities identified as having both high demand and the greatest need for grid reinforcement.
The province of Buenos Aires received the largest allocation at 185 megawatts. The NOA region, covering Argentina's northwest, was awarded 150 megawatts. NEA Chaco-Formosa received 161.5 megawatts, making it the second-largest regional allocation in the tender.
NEA Misiones-Corrientes and Litoral Entre Ríos each received 50 megawatts, while Litoral Santa Fe was allocated 36 megawatts and the Pampa region received 68 megawatts.
That geographic spread across seven distinct regions was framed by the government as a deliberate policy choice aimed at addressing systemic vulnerabilities that have historically manifested as service interruptions for residential, commercial, and industrial users alike.
What Battery Storage Is Meant to Achieve
According to the government's statement, battery storage systems of the kind being procured through Alma SADI offer rapid response capability during periods of demand fluctuation, add flexibility to dispatch operations, and provide reserves that allow the overall grid to operate with greater security margins. The stated goal of the program is to reduce the probability of power cuts and improve the quality of electricity service across all categories of users.
The Secretariat of Energy framed the technology as well suited to addressing what officials described as bottlenecks that had caused interruptions across two decades of grid operations.
The current government has positioned Alma SADI as part of a broader plan launched in 2024 to relieve stress on the electrical system and incrementally improve service reliability.
The Alma-GBA Precedent
The Alma SADI award follows an earlier procurement round called Alma-GBA, which targeted critical nodes in the Greater Buenos Aires metropolitan area. In that process, the government adjudicated 713 megawatts, a result that exceeded the initial 500-megawatt objective by more than 40 percent.
The estimated investment associated with Alma-GBA was stated to be in excess of USD 540 million. Work associated with those projects is currently underway, with construction proceeding toward eventual commissioning.
The Alma-GBA round is cited by the government as the country's first large-scale battery storage initiative, establishing both a regulatory and contractual template that the Alma SADI process built upon.
Together, the two programs represent a combined adjudicated capacity of more than 1,400 megawatts and a total estimated investment approaching USD 1.24 billion when both rounds are taken together.

The level of private sector participation in the Alma SADI tender drew 37 national and international companies, according to details released when the offers were received on May 27. The 235 offers submitted across those firms produced the 8,338-megawatt total that so substantially outpaced the procurement target.
