Ardian, a global private investment firm, has announced the acquisition of a 73.2MW portfolio of wind farm projects located in Sweden and Finland through its wholly-owned local platform, Enordic Evergreen. The assets were purchased from an investment vehicle managed by German asset manager KGAL.

Acquisition Details

The investment was made through Ardian's Clean Energy Evergreen Fund (ACEEF) and comprises three fully operational projects, all furnished with tier-one turbines. According to the company, the assets benefit from strong market fundamentals.

Two of the projects are located in the south of Sweden in the SE3 pricing zone, which Ardian describes as one of the most attractive pricing zones in the Nordics, while the remaining capacity in Finland is underpinned by a robust power price outlook driven by the growing penetration of data centers.

Portfolio Expansion in the Nordics

The transaction brings the total capacity of ACEEF's Enordic Evergreen platform in the region to 350MW. It also reinforces Ardian's commitment to advancing renewable energy infrastructure in the Nordics, following other recent investments, including a 62MW wind farm in Sweden acquired from ERG earlier this year.

Investment and asset management for the acquired projects will be led by Ardian's Nordic Evergreen operating platform. Ardian said it will leverage OPTA, its proprietary data analytics platform that supports the optimization of renewable assets, to enhance operational performance and accelerate the next phase of value creation. The projects will also benefit from wider expertise, cost, and operational synergies within the broader Enordic Evergreen platform.

Fund and Platform Background

ACEEF is Ardian Infrastructure's first open-ended clean energy fund. Launched in early 2022 with USD 1.12 billion of capital and a 1GW portfolio, the fund has grown to finance further acquisitions, allowing its portfolio to increase by circa 60% to today's 1.6GW operating across five platforms.

The fund offers professional investors the opportunity to enhance their exposure to renewable assets and the energy transition. It invests globally with a focus on Europe and commits to making investments with an environmental objective as described under Article 9 of the EU Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR).

Enordic Evergreen is a 100% ACEEF-owned Nordic Independent Power Producer (IPP), committed to accelerating the clean energy transition through long-term ownership, deep regional expertise, and strong local partnerships.

Management Commentary

Federico Gotti Tedeschi, Managing Director Infrastructure at Ardian, said the company's renewables strategy is built around a selective and disciplined investment approach and that the portfolio is a clear fit.

He noted that as electricity demand continues to grow, driven in particular by the rapid expansion of data centers, the Nordic energy market is entering a new phase.

"We are proud to play a leading role in supporting this transition by accelerating the development of new clean energy capacity through the ACEEF platform," he said, adding that Ardian will leverage its established industrial strategy to deliver further growth, drawing on the OPTA tool and the expertise within the Enordic Evergreen team. He described the transaction as an excellent strategic acquisition for ACEEF and Ardian's wider renewable energy strategy.

Timo Pohjakallio, Chief Executive Officer of Enordic Evergreen, said the investment brings three complementary and competitive wind parks to the portfolio and makes the platform a stronger player in its core operating area.

He said the team looks forward to leveraging its fleet management toolkit and industrial expertise to integrate the assets into its fleet and develop them further, and thanked the Enordic Evergreen team, the ACEEF investment team including OPTA expertise, and the company's advisors for their work on the transaction.

Broader Context

Ardian has been investing in renewable assets since 2007. Across all of its infrastructure funds, the firm manages more than 10 GW of clean energy capacity in Europe and the Americas. More broadly, Ardian, which was founded in 1996 and operates 22 offices with more than 350 investment professionals worldwide, manages or advises USD 200 billion for more than 1,920 clients across Private Equity, Real Assets and Credit.
