ArcelorMittal has concluded investments totaling USD 1.13 billion in wind and solar energy assets in Brazil, designed to produce one gigawatt of energy. The Brazilian arm of the steel company announced the completion of this major renewable energy initiative, which will increase the company's energy self-generation capacity by 85 percent by 2030.

Investment Details and Strategic Impact

The investment represents what ArcelorMittal CEO Everton Negrosiolo described as "a significant milestone in the company's energy transition strategy." Negrosiolo stated that the completion "aligns with rising demand for sustainable operations and enhances competitiveness and efficiency." The CEO also noted that ArcelorMittal is presently the fourth largest consumer of electric energy in Brazil.

Project Components and Locations

The renewable energy investment comprises three distinct facilities across two Brazilian states. The Wind-powered Babilonia Center Complex is located in the municipalities of Varzea Nova and Morro do Chapéu in Bahia state. This facility was developed as a joint venture with Casa dos Ventos and produces 553.5 megawatts of power. The wind project required investments equivalent to USD 818 million and began operations in September 2025.

The Solar-powered Babilonia Center Complex is situated in Varzea Nova, also developed in a joint venture with Casa dos Ventos. This solar facility produces 200 megawatts and requires investments equivalent to USD 127 million. Operations at the solar complex started in March 2026.

Partnership Arrangements

The third component of the investment is the Solar Park ArcelorMittal Energia Paracatú, located in the municipality of Paracatú in Minas Gerais state. This facility was developed in partnership with Atlas Renewable Energy and produces 264 megawatts of power. The solar park required investments equivalent to USD 174 million and began operations in October 2025.

The projects demonstrate ArcelorMittal's collaboration with multiple renewable energy partners, including Casa dos Ventos for both Babilonia Center facilities and Atlas Renewable Energy for the Paracatú solar park. These partnerships enabled the steel company to establish renewable energy operations across different regions of Brazil, with facilities now operational in both Bahia and Minas Gerais states.
