Amazon has announced four new Power Purchase Agreements for wind energy projects in Sweden, adding close to 200 megawatts of carbon-free electricity capacity to the country's grid.

The agreements bring Amazon's total invested wind capacity in Sweden to nearly one gigawatt, a volume the company says is sufficient to power the equivalent of more than 350,000 households annually.

Four Projects Across Central and Southern Sweden

The four newly announced projects bring Amazon's overall count of large-scale wind investments in Sweden to nine, with a combined estimated capacity of 985 megawatts. The projects are being developed by two Nordic renewable energy companies, OX2 and Eolus, and are located across central and southern parts of the country.

The largest of the four is Fageråsen, a 132-megawatt facility developed by OX2, Eolus, and Dala Vind and located in Malung-Sälen in Dalarna. Construction on Fageråsen began earlier this year and is currently ongoing.

The remaining three projects form part of the Saena portfolio, all developed by Eolus and owned by Mirova. These are Boarp, a 17.5-megawatt facility in Vaggeryd in Jönköping; Dållebo, an 18-megawatt project in Ulricehamn in Västra Götaland; and Fågelås, a 31.5-megawatt installation in Hjo, also in Västra Götaland. All three Saena projects are already operational and supplying carbon-free electricity to the Swedish grid.

Sweden's Role in Amazon's Energy Strategy

Amazon described the agreements as part of its Climate Pledge commitment to reach net-zero emissions across its entire business by 2040. The company noted that in 2025 it was the largest corporate buyer of carbon-free energy in Sweden.

Gülfem Toygar, Amazon's country manager for Sweden, said the investments reflect a long-term commitment to both the country and the communities where the company operates.

"When we invest in wind power, we're not just powering our own operations; we're adding entirely new sources of carbon-free energy to the grid that everyone depends on," Toygar said.

Toygar also pointed to Sweden's existing position as a leader in carbon-free energy. "Our wind power investments here are part of how we help add more carbon-free energy to the grid," she said.

Economic and Infrastructure Impact

Amazon stated that its energy investments in Sweden have contributed billions of Swedish kronor to the country's gross domestic product and created hundreds of local jobs. The company argued that wind farm construction generates employment and supports economic growth in the communities where the facilities are built.

The company also pointed to broader benefits for Swedish energy infrastructure, saying that new carbon-free projects add additional sources of supply to the same grid that powers homes, hospitals, and schools, and that expanding supply helps keep electricity costs stable and affordable for households and businesses.

A Growing Global and European Portfolio

The Swedish announcements sit within a significantly larger global investment program. Amazon said it has invested in more than 700 carbon-free energy projects worldwide, with a total portfolio exceeding 40 gigawatts, which it described as the largest of any company in the world.

Within Europe alone, Amazon said it has invested in more than 260 projects that together add over 10 gigawatts of new carbon-free energy capacity. The four new Swedish agreements are structured as long-term power purchase agreements, meaning Amazon commits to buying electricity directly from the producers rather than through intermediary markets.

The agreements span projects at different stages of development, from the three already-operational Saena sites to the Fageråsen facility currently under construction in Dalarna. When Fageråsen reaches full operation, it will be among the larger individual wind investments in Amazon's Swedish portfolio, given its 132-megawatt capacity.
