Amazon and Skyborn Renewables have signed a 600-megawatt Power Purchase Agreement for carbon-free electricity from the Gennaker offshore wind farm in the German Baltic Sea, marking the largest single PPA ever signed in Germany and one of the largest in Europe.
The agreement, announced, gives Skyborn Renewables the financial certainty needed to move forward with construction of a project that will represent the largest offshore wind farm in the German Baltic Sea.
A Record-Breaking Agreement
The 600 MW PPA is Amazon's largest single carbon-free energy agreement in Germany, adding substantial weight to what is already the company's most significant market for renewable energy in Europe.
Amazon holds the distinction of being Europe's largest corporate purchaser of carbon-free energy, and the Gennaker deal extends that position considerably. The agreement underpins Skyborn's ability to reach financial close, which is expected in summer 2026, at which point construction will begin.
The deal reflects a broader strategic commitment by Amazon, which co-founded The Climate Pledge in 2019 with a goal of reaching net-zero carbon across its operations by 2040. Combined with existing projects, Amazon's carbon-free energy portfolio in Germany now includes 12 projects with a total capacity of more than 1.3 gigawatts.
Once fully operational, those projects are expected to generate enough carbon-free energy to power the equivalent of more than 1.8 million German homes annually.

Gennaker: Scale and Specifications
With a total installed capacity of up to 976.5 MW, Gennaker will become the largest offshore wind farm in the German Baltic Sea once completed. The project will be located approximately 15 kilometres north of the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and will feature 63 state-of-the-art 15 MW offshore wind turbines. Skyborn Renewables developed the project from its earliest stage, securing the construction permit in December 2025.
Once operational, Gennaker is expected to generate enough carbon-free electricity to power the equivalent of more than one million German households annually.
The wind farm is expected to become operational toward the end of 2028. The project contributes to Germany's target of 30 gigawatts of installed offshore wind capacity by 2030 and is intended to strengthen the country's energy security by diversifying domestic renewable generation in the Baltic Sea.

A Major Regional Investment
The Gennaker project represents a total investment of USD 3.44 billion in the economy of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
A key element of the project's regional economic impact is the manufacturing contract awarded to EEW Special Pipe Constructions GmbH, a German company based in Rostock that will produce the monopile foundations for the wind farm. Rostock is approximately 40 kilometres from the Gennaker site. EEW SPC currently employs 1,000 people, and the contract is expected to secure existing jobs and strengthen the local supply chain in the state.
Manuela Schwesig, Minister-President of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, described the project as the largest energy investment ever made in the state. "The power purchase agreement between Skyborn Renewables and Amazon is a hugely important message for our state," Schwesig said.
"It demonstrates that major corporations are investing in wind power from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. By generating large volumes of electricity off our coast, the project is highly attractive for energy-intensive industries and creates jobs and long-term value in the region."
What the Deal Means for Both Companies
For Skyborn Renewables, the agreement represents a pivotal moment for both the project and the company. Adam Thomsen, Chief Development Officer of Skyborn Renewables, described Gennaker as the company's blueprint project.
"This agreement with Amazon marks a defining milestone for Gennaker and Skyborn," Thomsen said. "Gennaker demonstrates how large-scale offshore wind can be delivered in a reliable, scalable way. It also reflects the growing need to connect renewable electricity generation with robust and forward-looking infrastructure that enables a resilient energy system."
For Amazon, the deal signals continued expansion of its renewable energy commitments in Germany specifically and Europe more broadly. Rocco Bräuniger, Country Manager for Amazon Germany, Austria and Switzerland, framed the agreement in terms of the public-private collaboration necessary to advance the country's energy transition.
"By signing our largest power purchase agreement in Germany, we're giving Skyborn the certainty to move forward with Gennaker, bringing nearly one gigawatt of new offshore wind capacity onto the grid, strengthening Germany's energy security, and supporting jobs and investment in the region," Bräuniger said.
Timeline and Next Steps
Skyborn expects to reach financial close on the Gennaker project in summer 2026, which will trigger the start of construction. The wind farm is then expected to become operational toward the end of 2028.
The monopile foundations to be manufactured by EEW Special Pipe Constructions in Rostock represent one of the key early supply chain milestones in the construction process.
