Amazon Announces $3 Billion Data Center Investment in Warren County, Mississippi
Amazon today announced plans to invest at least USD 3 billion in Warren County, Mississippi, to build a new data center campus to support artificial intelligence and cloud computing technologies. This investment represents the largest private investment in Warren County's history and is estimated to create at least 200 new jobs at the Amazon data center campus, plus support more than 300 additional full-time equivalent positions in the Warren County community overall.
The announcement follows Amazon's landmark USD 10 billion investment in Madison County announced in 2024. Together, these investments reinforce Amazon's dedication to building America's technological future. The new data center campus builds on Amazon's strong track record of innovation, scale, and engineering excellence, bringing the same advanced infrastructure that powers the world's largest AI compute clusters to Warren County.
Job Creation and Economic Impact
The data center campus will create opportunities for data center engineers, network specialists, operations managers, and security specialists, while sustaining thousands more jobs in construction and the supply chain across the Magnolia State. This project is expected to generate significant tax revenue for Warren County and the surrounding region, providing sustainable funding for essential services, local schools, and infrastructure.
The investment will also strengthen the local economy by creating jobs, boosting business activity, and opening new opportunities for local contractors and service providers. In Madison County, where Amazon is currently developing two data center campuses, more than 75 Mississippi companies are engaged in construction and operations, employing thousands of construction workers, electricians, and operational staff.
Technology Infrastructure and Innovation
The data centers will feature custom-designed chips, servers, and network architecture, expanding cutting-edge technology in Mississippi. These energy-efficient data centers are designed to scale capacity to meet customer demand. The infrastructure innovation delivers nearly half a million Trainium2 chips in record time, with Anthropic scaling to more than one million chips by the end of 2025 as part of AWS Project Rainier, described as one of the world's largest AI compute clusters.
Warren County and Vicksburg are known for their strategic location along the Mississippi River, a vital commercial artery serving as a hub for riverboat commerce and agriculture. Amazon's investment adds a new chapter to Vicksburg's story as a technology hub for the South.
