Adani Group Announces INR 63,000 Crore Investment for Two Major Energy Projects in Assam
Adani Power and Adani Green Energy, two flagship companies of the Adani Group, announced on Friday that they have received Letters of Award (LoA) from the Assam government for two transformative energy projects worth INR 63,000 crore in the state.
Power Plant Investment Details
Adani Power Ltd, identified as India's largest private-sector power generator, will invest INR 48,000 crore to establish a 3,200 MW greenfield ultra-super critical power plant in Assam. The company emerged as the successful bidder by offering the lowest tariff of INR 6.30 per kWh through a tightly contested bidding process.
The power plant will be developed under the Design, Build, Finance, Own, and Operate (DBFOO) model. Coal linkage for the facility has been allocated under the SHAKTI Policy of the Government of India. The project is scheduled to be commissioned in phases, starting in December 2030.
Renewable Energy Storage Initiative
Separately, Adani Green Energy Ltd (AGEL), described as India's largest renewable energy company, intends to invest INR 15,000 crore to set up two Pumped Storage Plants (PSP) in Assam with a combined capacity of 2,700 MW. AGEL has received an LoA for 500 MW of energy storage capacity, which will be supplied from these PSPs.
Adani Green Energy also emerged as the lowest bidder for the 500MW energy storage capacity. The project will introduce cutting-edge solutions for energy storage, grid stability, and the management of electricity demand during peak times, ensuring a sustainable and resilient electricity supply. The facility will play a crucial role in integrating renewable energy sources, supporting Assam's journey toward a greener future.

Employment Generation and Economic Impact
The thermal power plant project is expected to generate significant employment opportunities in the region. During the construction phase, the project will create direct and indirect employment for around 20,000 to 25,000 people. Once operational, the facility will sustain approximately 3,500 jobs during the operations phase.
The state-of-the-art thermal power plant and pioneering pumped storage facility represent a collective investment of INR 63,000 crore in the state, marking what the company describes as the largest private sector investment in the northeastern region.
Strategic Regional Focus
According to Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group, these landmark initiatives underscore the company's strategic focus on advancing India's northeastern region. The projects align with his pledge made in February this year to invest INR 50,000 crore in the region's development and growth.
“The North-East is emerging as a vital frontier in India's growth story, and we are proud to contribute to its transformation. Our 3,200 MW thermal power project and 2,700 MW PSP projects in Assam collectively represent not only the largest private sector investment in the region but also firm steps toward energy security, industrial development, and job creation,” Gautam Adani stated.
He further mentioned, “These projects will not only energize Assam but also catalyze progress across the entire northeastern corridor. We are honored to contribute to Assam and the entire northeast's progress and look forward to building partnerships that uplift local communities and drive India's energy transformation.”
