ACEN, in collaboration with UPC Renewables, has begun construction on two large-scale renewable energy projects in India, marking a major step in their joint efforts to expand their presence in the country's fast-growing clean energy sector. The projects include a 420 MW solar farm in Rajasthan and a 120 MW wind farm in Karnataka, scheduled for completion by early 2027. These developments are expected to generate a combined 1,158 GWh of renewable electricity each year, sufficient to power approximately 241,000 homes while preventing over 876,000 tons of carbon emissions annually.
Project Details
The 420 MW solar facility is being developed in Barmer, Rajasthan, an area known for its high solar irradiance, and is expected to produce around 767 GWh of clean energy per year. The 120 MW wind farm in Karnataka will utilize the region's strong monsoonal winds and favorable topography to generate 391 GWh annually. Both projects contribute to India's broader goals of increasing non-fossil fuel energy capacity and accelerating the transition to cleaner sources of power.
Partnership and Expansion
The commencement of these new projects marks another important milestone in the expansion of ACEN and UPC Renewables across Asia-Pacific, reinforcing their commitment to scalable and sustainable energy solutions. The partnership between the two companies has been instrumental in enabling disciplined capital deployment across high-potential markets like India. The companies' existing footprint in India already includes three operational solar assets, and these new ventures reflect their long-term commitment to the country's clean energy future.
Economic and Environmental Impact
In addition to their environmental impact, the projects are also set to drive economic benefits locally, with over 1,500 green jobs expected to be created during the construction phase. This aligns with the companies' focus on supporting community development alongside renewable energy deployment. The projects are part of a broader pipeline of 1 GWp+ RE projects, which the companies aim to deliver over the next two years, playing a meaningful role in India's green energy transition. With the launch of these projects, ACEN and UPC Renewables are taking a significant step towards contributing to India's clean energy goals and reducing carbon emissions, ultimately benefiting the environment and the local community.
