ACCIONA Energía has secured a 20-year power supply contract for 281 MW of renewable energy capacity in the Philippines through Round 4 of the Department of Energy's Green Energy Auction Program (GEAP). The contract covers the full output of two renewable projects that will deliver clean energy to Filipino consumers while supporting the country's renewable energy targets.

Project Details and Timeline

The auction award encompasses two distinct renewable energy projects in different regions of the Philippines. The Kalayaan 2 wind farm in Laguna will contribute 101 MW of capacity and is currently under construction. The second project, the Daanbantayan solar plant in Cebu, will provide 180 MWp of solar capacity, with construction scheduled to begin before the end of 2025.

The 20-year contract structure provides long-term certainty for the energy output from both facilities, ensuring stable renewable power generation for the Philippine grid over the next two decades.

Broader Development Pipeline

Beyond these two awarded projects, ACCIONA Energía maintains an extensive development pipeline of more than 2 GW under development in the Philippines. This substantial portfolio positions the company as a significant player in the country's renewable energy expansion efforts.

The company has recently undertaken a strategic reorganization of its partnerships in Southeast Asia to strengthen its market position. This restructuring specifically targets key markets, including the Philippines and Thailand, where ACCIONA Energía holds substantial project portfolios and plans continued expansion in the coming years.

ACCIONA's Historical Presence in the Philippines

ACCIONA has maintained a strong presence in the Philippines since 2016, primarily operating through its water and infrastructure divisions. The company has delivered several flagship infrastructure projects in the country, including the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) and multiple water treatment facilities.

The company's water infrastructure contributions include the Putatan II and Laguna Lake water treatment plants, demonstrating ACCIONA's diverse capabilities beyond renewable energy development.

Community Development Initiatives

ACCIONA's foundation, acciona.org, has been actively supporting rural and underserved communities in the Philippines since 2021. The foundation focuses on bringing electricity services to areas that previously lacked access to power and had little prospect of connection to the electricity grid in the short term.

Through strategic collaborations with the Ayala Foundation and the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation and Development, acciona.org has extended its reach to approximately 3,500 households, small businesses, and community centers. These initiatives target communities that have historically been underserved by traditional grid infrastructure, providing essential electricity access to support local economic development and improved quality of life.

The foundation's work complements ACCIONA Energía's commercial renewable energy projects by addressing energy access challenges in areas where conventional grid extension may not be economically viable in the near term.
